A city with a great library is
a great city.
Nashville Public Library coined that phrase
back in 2000. Sixteen years later this
philosophy still drives our work today.
Everything we do at our 21 locations across
Davidson County is an intentional effort
to inspire reading, advance learning and
connect our community.
I’m pleased to present Nashville Public
Library’s annual report, delivered for the
first time in partnership with the Nashville
Public Library Foundation. With the support
of the Foundation and its generous donors
and sponsors, we design essential innovative
education opportunities. These include
our Bringing Books to Life! pre-k outreach
program, literature-based Wishing Chair puppet productions and Limitless
Libraries, our transformational reading and digital education partnership with
local schools.
Our education models set us apart, at home and across the nation. We are
committed to education leadership because we are committed to our great
city. We believe in Nashville’s people and its potential.
We’re the only public library in the U.S. to house an after-school intervention
network equal in caliber to the Nashville After Zone Alliance (NAZA). We are
among only a handful of libraries nationwide to have an innovative, mentorbased
learning space for teens, called Studio NPL. And our Pathway for New
Americans initiative is one of only three in the country.
Simply put, we’re on a roll, and we are seeing dramatic results that you’ll
read about in the pages ahead. Thank you for being a part of this incredible,
ongoing story. I can’t wait to see what we dream up next.
