Send children to school even if
unwell, head urges parents

A head teacher has been criticised
by a GP for telling parents to send their children
to school even if they are ill with a temperature.
Darryl Walsh, head of Sylvan Infants in Poole,
Dorset, wrote to parents asking them to give sick
children medicine, then send them to school.
The school’s attendance rate is 95.5 per cent,
half a percentage point below its target set by
the Department for Education.
Mr Walsh told families in a newsletter: “A lot of
parents are phoning in to say that their child has
a bad cough or a temperature. Our advice would
