Flood Relief Fund
Community Foundation for Calderdale
website: www.cffc.co.uk
After the devastating floods of Boxing Day
2015, people from across the UK have been
getting stuck into the rescue and clean up
work to get residents of Yorkshire back into
their homes. Bradford & Calderdale Councils
have put in place a small initial payment of
£500 to assist flood victims.
The Rotary Club of Bradford West held a
small charity evening on New Year’s Eve at
the home of Richard Greenwood, President
Elect of the Club and his wife. A sum of
£250 was collected and is being sent to the
Calderdale Flood Relief Fund. The event was
organised by Gorilla Zoo, a Halifax based
entertainments company’
The Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge had a
bucket collection at the local Tesco’s store
and raised £7,500.
Various events supporting the charity have
taken place. The Flood Aid Yorkshire Gala
Show in early January helped launch the
Community Foundation of Calderdale’s
‘Flood Relief Fund’ which was hosted by
Christa Ackroyd & Ian Royce.
Cannon & Ball released their brilliantly happy
charity single from 1982 recording ‘Together
We’ll Be Ok.’ with the aim of getting to the
number ‘1’ spot. The comedians headlined
the show and performed the song live. All
proceeds from the song will go to the Flood
Relief Fund.
Local businesses helped support the event
by providing finance and services to help
make the event happen at such short notice.
The event raised £50,000 on the evening.
The next event on the calendar is “Wring Out
The Clowns” on Monday 8th February 2016.
‘Wring Out The Clowns’ is a fundraising
comedy gala with Sarah Millican, Johnny
Vegas, Rory Bremner, Chris Ramsey, Jack
Carroll and Justin Moorhouse. Check the
box office of the Victoria Theatre, Halifax on
01422 351158, at the time of going to print,
limited spaces were available, but this event
will sell out.
The Community Foundation for Calderdale
have spearheaded the Flood Relief Fund
Campaign through social media, textgiving
and fundraising. Their localgiving.com
campaign set a huge challenge of reaching
£1million for the Flood Relief Fund. On the
21st January they reached their target and
the funds are continuing to roll in.
