Keelham Primary School
Sports success for Keelham Primary School.
Although Keelham has limited space and
facilities for outdoor sports, we use what we
have very well and never make any excuses
for being a small school. We ensure that all
our children get daily sports coaching every
lunch hour with specialist coaches. We also
provide after school sports activities on
three days every week. This is all in addition
to the weekly P.E. curriculum taught within
school that includes dance, gymnastics and
swimming.
I am very happy to report that over the last
few months we have been busy participating
in the many sporting competitions that take
place in the local area and have achieved
many successes.
We had three football teams competing in the
under 9’s, under 11’s and girls’ tournament
at Thornton Grammar School. Much of this
was done in really bad weather so well done
to all the teams for their team work and
determination. All our teams got through to
the final in their competition which is a great
achievement.
We have also taken part in athletics
competitions and children throughout Key
stage 2 (7- 11 year olds) showed their skills
with javelin, long jump and track events.
For many children it was the first time they
had participated in such events and they
represented school brilliantly. This term we
have cross country events to take part in and
further football and multi sports events too.
The school always has to thank Mrs Pam Croft
who is our sports leader in school. She shows
great enthusiasm and energy and this is
obviously reflected by the children through
their huge efforts.
We are especially proud of Patrick Watkinson
who is now in our Year 6. He works tirelessly

out of school in high standards Gymnastics
events and is now placed 6th in the country
after his latest round of competitions. This
year he has been chosen for the Junior
Gymnastics Squad representing Great Britain.
This is a great achievement and is a reflection
not only of his talent but his enormous effort
and commitment to his training. We wish
him well.
One positive for us this year is that we have
secured funding for the resurfacing of our
top sports playground with an all-weather
material. This has been achieved after many
years fund raising by our PTA and school, by
donations including the Rotary Club of £127
and by our office staff working hard to secure
part sponsorship from local companies. Our
thanks go to everyone and we hope that
the improved surface enhances our already
successful sports achievements!
