Trojanowska
rof. Małgorzata Szczerbo-Trojanowska is Chairman of
Radiology at the Medical University in Lublin, her Alma
Mater. She has been a full professor there since 1995.
Her main field of interest is interventional radiology. She has
introduced to clinical practice in Poland many embolization, angioplasty
and stentgrafting procedures for treatment of vascular
malformations, aneurysms and neoplasms,
She co-founded the Polish Interventional Radiology Society,
which she headed during 1980-1990. She was also a co-founder of the Polish Magnetic
Resonance Society and served on its Executive Board for 10 years from 1989. In 2001
Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska presided over the Polish Radiological Society Congress and
was elected its president for three years.
Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska has participated in many scientific programs abroad - at the
Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the Uppsala University in Sweden, and the University
of Giessen in Germany, to mention some. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska is an active member
of numerous international medical societies, associations and committees. In 2004 she
was elected to the Board of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and has worked on
its various committees. In 2005 Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska was elected to the Board of
the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). Since 2005
she has also been on the Steering Committee of the European School of Radiology, conducting
educational activities on all continents. Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska has been
awarded honorary memberships in nine scientific societies, including the Radiological
Society of North America (RSNA), German, Hungarian and Swedish Radiological
Societies. The high point of her international achievements was Presidency of the
European Congress of Radiology in 2010 in Vienna.
Her scientific work has resulted in 250 papers published in scientific journals and over
300 presentations at many national and international scientific meetings and congresses.
27 radiologists have obtained their PhD degrees under her supervision.
Prof. Szczerbo-Trojanowska has received two awards from the Polish Minister of Health,
as well as other honors , including the Medal of the Polish Radiological Society, the Medal
of the Polish Chamber of Physicians, the Medal Gloria Medicine, the Gold Medal of the
European Radiological Society and the President’s Award of the American Association for
Women Radiologists.
She has been married to Tomasz, a neurosurgeon, for 45 years. They are proud parents of
Peter and Konrad and grandparents of Nina and Daria. They love good music and enjoy
travel and sports, particularly skiing and sailing.
