With great sadness we announce the passing of PAMS Honorary Member<br />
Krzysztof Krawczynski, M.D., Ph.D.<br />
and his wife<br />
Elzbieta Gurtler-Krawczynska, M.D, Ph.D.<br />
who died tragically on January 28, <strong>2016</strong><br />
Dr. Krawczynski was a graduate of Warsaw Medical Academy, who did his post-doctoral training at<br />
the National Institute of Hygiene in Warsaw and at Cornell University Medical College in New York.<br />
He was a scientific collaborator at the New York State Department of Health; NIH and FDA; Institute<br />
Pasteur in Paris; University of Cologne; and others.<br />
From 1984 to 2015 Dr. Krawczynski worked at the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta,<br />
where he was Chief of Experimental Pathology and Immunology Laboratory, Division of Viral Hepatitis.<br />
There, he made outstanding research contributions in the area of viral hepatitis and achieved the<br />
highest possible academic rank of Distinguished Consultant. Dr. Krawczynski was an author of 128<br />
scientific publications. He was recognized as a world expert in the immunopathology of hepatitis<br />
and was a sought-after speaker at international conferences on hepatology and gastroenterology.<br />
He was a member of several scientific societies devoted to liver diseases. Dr. Krawczynski contributed<br />
several patents for methodologies used in the development of hepatitis E vaccine and<br />
was a recipient of several scientific awards in Poland and in the US. His wife, Dr. Elzbieta<br />
Gurtler-Krawczynska, also a graduate of Warsaw Medical Academy, was an accomplished<br />
cardiologist at Emory University in Atlanta.<br />
The Polish-American Society in Chicago was proud to elect Dr. Krzysztof Krawczynski<br />
an Honorary Member in 2012 at our Ball, which he attended with his wife, daughter<br />
and granddaughters.<br />
It is with great sadness that we say Good Bye to our dear Friends.<br />
