timeline<br />
THE YEAR 1908 was particularly auspicious<br />
for <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Dublin</strong>. In<br />
the same year, the young university received<br />
its royal charter and the <strong>UCD</strong><br />
Faculty of Commerce –asitwas then<br />
known –came into existence.<br />
Th<strong>at</strong> was the year <strong>UCD</strong> students, for the first<br />
time, filed with eager anticip<strong>at</strong>ion through the<br />
doors of the brand new Earlsfort Terrace building.<br />
The move from Newman House on St<br />
Stephen’s Green marked abold new direction for<br />
<strong>UCD</strong>. The college started small, with just 10 students<br />
recorded in the 1912-13 session, when<br />
records began. But, for students on the new commerce<br />
course, the sense of anticip<strong>at</strong>ion was coupled<br />
with arecognition of ahistorical journey.<br />
For the first time, the n<strong>at</strong>ional university was<br />
setting out to educ<strong>at</strong>e anew gener<strong>at</strong>ion of business<br />
leaders. From the outset, <strong>UCD</strong> captured an<br />
