minted a special medallion to commemorate the 50th
Anniversary of Singapore’s independence. Weighing
1 oz and made of 999 silver or fine gold, the obverse of
the minted medallion is devoted to Sir Thomas Stamford
Raffles, who is considered the ‘Father of Singapore’ by
purchasing the land for the British East India Company
in 1819 and establishing the first British settlement. The
reverse of the medallion shows the country’s outline,
together with the number 50 and Singapore’s emblematic
crescent moon and stars.
