The following are original translations of official Islamic State statements concerning<br />
Saudi Arabia. The first is an excerpt from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s<br />
November 2014 address, in which he declared the establishment of an official<br />
presence on the Arabian Peninsula and outlined a strategy there. The second is<br />
the first audio statement from Najd Province, one of the Islamic State’s three<br />
declared provinces in Saudi Arabia, released at the end of May 2015. It is both<br />
a statement of the Islamic State’s intentions and motives in Saudi Arabia and<br />
a tribute to the suicide bomber who killed 21 Shia civilians at a mosque in the<br />
Eastern Province on May 22, 2015.<br />
Excerpt From “Though the Unbelievers Be Averse,”<br />
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, November 13, 2014 104<br />
O sons of the Lands of the Two Holy Places, O people of God’s unity [tawhid],<br />
O people of association and dissociation [al-wala wal-bara]. Among you is the<br />
head of the snake, the stronghold of the disease. So unsheathe your swords,<br />
break your scabbards into pieces, forsake this lower world! There shall be no<br />
safety for the House of Salul, no relief from this day forward. There is no place<br />
for the idolaters on the Peninsula of Muhammad—may God bless and preserve<br />
him. Unsheathe your swords! First, go after the Rejectionists [al-Rafida,<br />
that is, the Shia] wherever you find them, then the Al Salul [that is, the Al<br />
Saud family] and their soldiers, before the Crusaders and their bases. Go after<br />
the Rejectionists and the Al Salul and their soldiers! Tear them to pieces! Seize<br />
them as groups and as individuals! Make life loathsome for them. Keep them<br />
busy with themselves, not us. And be patient, do not rush. Before long, God<br />
willing, you will see portents of the Islamic State.<br />
