CHILDREN'S DAY<br />

The <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>Orff</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> was the first chapter in Canada to present workshops specifically for<br />

children, designed to promote enthusiasm for the <strong>Orff</strong>-Schulwerk and offer students the<br />

opportunity to make music together with different teachers and fellow students.<br />

May 1987 100 Grade Five students from Winnipeg and rural <strong>Manitoba</strong> chugged from<br />

one railway whistle stop to the next culminating with a final giant train rondo.<br />

Teachers: Peggy Emmond, Lynn Grice, Marcelline Moody, Fred Simpson, Ruth Wiwchar.<br />

May 1989 100 Grade Five students from all over <strong>Manitoba</strong> spent the day with a "Hoe Down"<br />

theme.<br />

Teachers: Sandra Benum, Calla Isaak, Joan Linklater, Fred Simpson, Dianne Sjoberg.<br />

May 1991 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students explored "O Canada".<br />

Teachers: Anita Cowan, Pat Johnson, Pauline Loewen, Maureen Monson, Cheryl Pawling.<br />

May 1992 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at O.V Jewitt School with the title<br />

"A Collage of Canons".<br />

Teachers: Lorelie Bosma, Jewel Casselman, Tara Kawa, Fred Simpson, Daphne Woods.<br />

May 1993 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at Westworth United Church to explore a<br />

"Calypso" theme.<br />

Teachers: Lorelie Bosma, Jane Grunau, Lucien Saurette, Roberta Wiebe, Julie Wheeler.<br />

May 1994 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at Fort Garry United Church to work on<br />

"Classical <strong>Orff</strong>".<br />

Teachers: Brenda Harvey, Paula Jessen, Sandra Komishon, Maureen Monson,<br />

Lucien Saurette.<br />

May 1995 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at Fort Garry United Church to explore<br />

Canadian Folk Songs and Dance with the title "Go on a Journey".<br />

Teachers: Angela Elster, Rowesa Gordon, Dr. Dave Mandzuk, Ruth Wiwchar.<br />

May 1996 100 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at Fort Garry United Church for the<br />

theme "Sea Shanties".<br />

Teachers: Kathy Gordon, Cathy Kinsman, Fred Simpson, Ed Reynolds, Dianne Sjoberg.<br />

May 1997 125 (registered but not in attendance because of the flood) Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong><br />

students met at McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church to work on<br />

"A Medieval and Renaissance Day".<br />

Teachers: Jewel Casselman, Pat Johnson, Lorelie Knoll, Joan Linklater, Susan Reimer.<br />

May 1998 125 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at the Convention Centre for "Prairie<br />

Spirit".<br />

Teachers: Steven Calantropio, Angela Knock, Diane Ladendecker, Dianne Sjoberg,<br />

Ruth Wiwchar.<br />

May 1999 125 Grade Five <strong>Manitoba</strong> students met at Fort Garry United Church for "Where<br />

the Americas Come To Sing and Play".<br />

Teachers: Gordon Boroluzzi, Maureen Monson, Francine Morin, Fred Simpson,<br />

Karen Tole-Henderson.<br />
