of Rajput king referred as Rajputana. The city is also known as the Sun City due the<br />

sunny weather in entire years. The city has a his<strong>to</strong>ry related British and Mughal<br />

Empires as well as Marathas.<br />

The most attractive places for <strong>to</strong>urism are Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawab Palace,<br />

Jaswant Thada, Balsamand Lake, Kaylana Lake and Ghanta Ghar.

“The Meharangarh Fort” is built by the Rajput King<br />

Rao Jodha around 1460. In fact, Rao Jodha was<br />

the founder of Jodhpur, previously it was known as<br />

Marwar. The fort is situated 410 feet above the<br />

city and enclosed by imposing thick walls. The fort<br />

has seven gates <strong>to</strong> enter inside, but the main four<br />

gates are namely as, Jai Pol, Fateh pol both Pol<br />

(gate) are a symbol of vic<strong>to</strong>ry,


The palace also includes Moti Mahal,<br />

Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh<br />

Khana and Daulat Khana. Now, the<br />

fort is established in the museum it<br />

has the Elephants Howdahs,<br />

Palaquins, Daulat Khana — Treasures of<br />

Mehrangarh Museum, Armoury,<br />

Paintings, and The Turban Gallery. The<br />

museum preserved the traditional<br />

belongings of the Rajputanas.


“Umaid Bhawan Palace” is one of the world’s largest private residences. The one part<br />

of the palace is managed by the Taj Hotels and one part has a museum. The named<br />

is given after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owner, Gaj Singh.<br />

The palace is built <strong>to</strong> provide the employments <strong>to</strong> the thousands of citizens during the<br />

period of famine. The palace was built with “dun-<strong>co</strong>loured” (golden-yellow)<br />

sands<strong>to</strong>nes and marbles. The palace is set in the area of 26 acres land, including 15<br />

acres lavish garden.


The museum has exhibits of stuff leopards, a very<br />

large symbolic flag gifted <strong>to</strong> Maharaja Jaswant Singh<br />

by Queen Vic<strong>to</strong>ria, and the vintage cars of royal kings<br />

are also displayed in front of the museum. A<br />

<strong>co</strong>llection of clocks, paintings and a lot things are<br />

exhibited in the museum.


The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of<br />

his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The Balsamand Lake is a lake situated 5 km<br />

away from Jodhpur on jodhpur-Mandore Road. It is a famous picnic spot. It is also a<br />

home of birds and animals like pea<strong>co</strong>ck and jackals. It has lush green ground and<br />

trees like mango, papaya, plums, etc. The Kaylana Lake is an artificial lake built by<br />

Pratap Singh in 1872. The Ghanta Ghar is also the clock <strong>to</strong>wer of Rajasthan; it was<br />

built by Maharaja Sardar Singh from whom the market takes name.
