It’s been an incredible year in the movement for LGBT equality, and NCLR<br />
Executive Director Kate Kendell and Legislative Policy Director Geoff Kors will<br />
share what’s in store for the road ahead locally and nationwide.<br />
This year, we are excited to announce two exceptional honorees: California<br />
Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, who made history as San Francisco’s mayor in<br />
2004 by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and Salt Lake City’s first<br />
openly LGBT Mayor Jackie Biskupski!<br />
NCLR has been at the forefront of the movement for LGBT equality and<br />
liberation since its start in 1977. It was the first organization to launch projects<br />
advancing parent, youth, immigrant, and transgender rights, and many others.<br />
NCLR helped bring marriage equality to California in 2008 and made history<br />
again last year when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage<br />
equality nationwide after hearing its Tennessee marriage case and cases from<br />
three other states.<br />
It continues to shape the legal landscape for all LGBT people and families<br />
across the country through its precedent-setting litigation, legislation, policy,<br />
and public education. Its #BornPerfect campaign to end conversion nationwide<br />
by 2019 is another of its groundbreaking projects, resulting in laws protecting<br />
LGBT minors from the dangerous practice so far in California, New Jersey,<br />
Oregon, Illinois, and Washington D.C.<br />

advance full equality for the entire LGBT community. The Garden Party will be<br />
held on April 2, with a VIP champagne reception beginning at 5 p.m. and the<br />
party starting at 5:30 p.m.<br />
