Temple. Sri Harmandir sahib or Sri Darbar<br />

Sahib is <strong>in</strong>formally referred as The Golden<br />

After The Golden Temple there is another place <strong>to</strong><br />

“Akal Takht” is situated <strong>in</strong> the same <strong>co</strong>mplex. The<br />

Akal Takht means throne of timeless one, is one of<br />

the five power takhts (seats) of Sikhs which is<br />

<strong>co</strong>ncerned with justice and <strong>co</strong>nsideration issues.<br />

The sixth Guru Hargob<strong>in</strong>d orig<strong>in</strong>ated this place.<br />

It is the highest authority of khalsa (a <strong>co</strong>llective<br />

body of Sikh) The Akal Takht and The Golden<br />

Beat<strong>in</strong>g Retreat ceremony. It is a daily military<br />

practice of the <strong>India</strong>n security forces (Border<br />

Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan<br />

Rangers) jo<strong>in</strong>tly followed s<strong>in</strong>ce 1959. The<br />

opened and the two flags are lowered simultaneously. The flags are folded and the ceremony<br />

ends with a retreat that <strong>in</strong>volves a brusque handshake between soldiers from either side,<br />

followed by the clos<strong>in</strong>g of the gates aga<strong>in</strong>. This place is echoed with patriotic songs <strong>in</strong> the<br />
