Fresh local fruit<br />
Passport/Visas<br />
All visitors must have valid passports and<br />
proof of return or on-going travel plans,<br />
whether by sea or air. Entry is usually granted<br />
for 30 days and is renewable at the discretion<br />
of the Immigration Department.<br />
Visas are not required for most countries.<br />
However, the following countries do require<br />
a visa: Lebanon, Syria, Nigeria, Jordan, Iraq,<br />
Iran and the Dominican Republic. Port<br />
Elizabeth is the port of entry for customs<br />
clearance. Customs and Immigration are<br />
centrally located in the Revenue Office in<br />
Port Elizabeth, along with the Post Office. For<br />
opening times see page 8.<br />
Ports<br />
For those travelling by yacht the official port of<br />
entry is Port Elizabeth.<br />
Duty Free<br />
The following items are duty free but must<br />
be fully declared: wine or spirits not exceeding<br />
one quart in all; tobacco, not over half a<br />
pound; cigars, not more than 50, or cigarettes,<br />
not more than 200.<br />
Restricted items: drugs, arms, ammunition,<br />
spear guns, fresh fruit, vegetables and<br />
uncooked meat.<br />
Health Requirements<br />
No vaccinations are required unless in transit<br />
from, or having visited, an infected area<br />
within six days of arrival. Drinking tap water<br />
is perfectly safe, but bottled, purified and<br />
mineral water are also readily available.<br />
