Family Days Out this Easter Your guide to a great Easter break starts here! From ballet to duck hunting – Keep the kids busy with these great activities and family days out... Enjoy a family day out at St John’s Hospice Easter Fayre Hop along to St John’s Wood Church Gardens on the 19th and 20th March and help to raise vitals funds for St John’s Hospice. Attractions include fairground rides, over 60 stalls selling delicious food, as well as clothing, jewellery, toys, books and much more. The fayre is open 11am-6pm and entry is free! There will be a BBQ, a meet and greet with TV character Peppa Pig as well as an Easter Egg Hunt. Last year the charity’s community fayres raised more than £150,000. This year they hope to raise even more to ensure patients continue to receive the highest standards of care. For more information visit www.intu.co.uk/spongebob Popular outdoor Museum re-opens If you’re looking for something fun and educational to do with the kids this Easter holiday then head down to Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles. This award-winning outdoor museum opens its gates to the public for the 2016 season on 25th March with a four day Traditional Easter event. Children can make a delicious traditional Easter treat to take home, take part in an Easter trail and have fun with Easterthemed craft activities. There will be folk singers, historic cooking demonstrations and costumed reenactors in the Museum’s historic buildings carrying out Easter traditions from various points in history. Visitors can enjoy exploring the Museum’s 45 acre site, unspoilt woodland and over 30 rescued historic buildings. Children are encouraged to discover and touch the artefacts and there are plenty of opportunities to dress up, play with historic toys and games, and build models of the barns. The Museum will hold over 30 special events this year including their famous Terrific Tuesdays during school holidays. Events in April and May include Lambing, Suffragettes, Elizabethans, ‘Enchanted Museum’ (part of the national ‘Museums at Night’ campaign) and Roman Gladiators who are frequently used in CBBC’s Horrible Histories. Give your children their first taste of ballet This Easter, prepare to be enchanted by My First Ballet: Sleeping Beauty, a magical version of the fairy tale ballet created especially for children aged three upwards. From Aurora’s christening in the grand hall of the palace, to her jubilant wedding celebrations, the popular fairy tale comes alive on stage. With a narrator to help the young audience follow the story, and a shortened version of Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous music, this is the perfect introduction to the beauty of ballet, and a fantastic family day out. This unique collaboration between English National Ballet and English National Ballet School is created by English National Ballet’s Associate Artist George Williamson and performed by second year students from English National Ballet School. Celebrate Easter with our Great Easter Egg Hunt at this year’s Spring Steam Up. Kids can see live chicks hatching and make their own special Easter bonnet before they hunt for eggs around our historical site. With lots of watery fun to be had in the Splash Zone it the perfect day out for the families this Easter. From March 25th – 28th we will be firing up our historic Lancashire Boiler to steam all our mighty Cornish and Rotative engines for the Grand Easter Steam Up. Families can have fun riding behind Thomas Wicksteed, our narrow gauge locomotive and our steam powered Shand Mason Steam Fire Engine will also be in action to make sure this event will end with a big SPLASH! Children can Bottle Feed Kid Goats, jump on board the daily Tractor & Trailer Rides* for a fun tour of the farm and from 25 March until 10 April solve the Spring Trail to earn a yummy treat. Plus, there will be plenty of opportunities to see the Easter Lambs; you may be lucky enough to watch one being born! Join in the Giant Easter Duck Hunt at WWT London Wetland Centre Some ducklings have gone missing, can you help find them? Follow the Easter Giant Duck Hunt around WWT London Wetland Centre to discover where the eight big yellow ducklings are hiding, disguised as real ducks. If you discover them all you’ll win a prize. As well as tracking down the missing ducklings you can also buy your own LEGO brick duckling to build and take home as an Easter souvenir. Or join in the Easter arts & crafts such as egg-painting.
