SESSION V: April 18 - May 27, 2016 • SESSION VI: June 6 - July 15, 2016

COVER:
The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission has
4 summer day camps. We offer a variety of fun
activities/games/arts & crafts/field trips/swimming throughout
the summer months.
We also offer an award-winning Counselor-in-Training (CIT)
Program for rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders at the Lexington
Leisure Center. Only former campers are eligible for this
program. Potential candidates must submit an application,
letters of recommendation, and interview with a Director.
Once accepted into this program, CITs are trained to work
with children in grades K5-4, volunteer at our 7 Senior
Centers/Pets Inc., and travel locally/regionally on field trips
twice a week.
The cover shows our CITs at the Biltmore Estate and hiking
Chimney Rock State Park last summer. The goal of this
program is to prepare them to be counselors within the next
few years. We are incredibly proud of what our CITs have
accomplished in this program and are excited to see them
grow into positive role models for our community!
Aging Department
The overall goal of the seven Senior Centers of the
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is
summarized in the motto, Privileged Ones Growing
Older. Recognizing that it is a privilege to grow older, we
strive to enhance the lives of the older adults in our
population and to acknowledge and benefit from the
numerous gifts those persons have to offer through their
participation in our programs.
Our Senior Centers offer a variety of programs and
activities aimed at enhancing an older adult’s mental and
physical wellness. Anyone who wishes to participate in
our programs must be free of conditions requiring
personal care assistance or personal supervision. Older
adults are welcome to participate in the daily activities at
the Centers. Call your local Center for age requirements,
memberships, activity fees and program availability.
LEXINGTON, S.C.
(www.BigSouthSports.com) – Lexington
County Recreation and Aging Commission
(LCRAC) will host the 2016 Big South
Conference Baseball Championship
presented by Hardee’s May 24-28, it was
announced today at a press conference at the
Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The
ballpark will serve as the host venue for the
eight-team, double-elimination tournament
that will determine the Big South’s automatic
bid recipient to the NCAA Championship.
LCRAC is the first-ever true neutral entity to host the Big South Baseball
Championship, as the league’s postseason event had previously been hosted by the
conference membership either on-campus or at a local facility within its local
community. This new mutually beneficial arrangement gives the Big South
Conference a neutral site for its tournament within the league’s footprint of Virginia,
North Carolina and South Carolina, while providing a notable event with national
coverage to Lexington County Ballpark before the Blowfish take the field for the
2016 season. The Big South Championship game on Saturday, May 28 will be
televised live on ESPNU for the first time.
