NOTES TO KNOW
• The two-time NCAA All-American and 2015 national champion won his third EIWA crown two weekends ago.
• Has a 112-6 career record with 70 bonus wins, including 29-1 with 24 bonus wins as a junior in 2016.
• His .800 bonus win percentage (24-of-30) is the highest single-season average in school history.
• Won the Binghamton Open, New York State Intercollegiates, Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle.
• Is 10-1 against ranked opponents on the year and 14-1 vs. NCAA qualifiers.
• Opened the year by winning his first 14 contests of the year with bonus points.
• Is a perfect 20-0 against EIWA opponents this year.
• Dean won his first NCAA title in 2015 with a perfect three-day run through the 184-pound bracket.
• He claimed the title with a 6-2 victory over Lehigh’s Nathaniel Brown in the finals, making it four wins over Brown
on the season.
• The top seed entering the tournament, he ended his second season with a 43-2 overall record and a second EIWA
championship and NCAA All-America honor to his name.
• Dean led the Big Red in wins (43), bonus wins (24), winning percentage (.956) and dual wins (18-0).
• The 2015 EIWA and Ivy League Wrestler of the Year and two-time first-team all-leaguer sports an 83-5 career mark.
• Along with winning an EIWA and NCAA championship, Dean won his second straight Southern Scuffle title, a New
York State Intercollegiate championship and won his match at the preseason NWCA All-Star Classic.
• The Ivy League and EIWA Rookie of the Year in 2014, Dean earned All-America honors with a third-place finish at the
2014 NCAA Championships.
• The unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection had a spectacular rookie season, going 40-3 with his only losses coming
to the top two wrestlers at his weight class.
• He led the team in wins and was second in bonus wins (23).
• He won 29 consecutive matches, including 11 over top 20 wrestlers, before dropping a 5-3 decision to eventual
national champion Ed Ruth of Penn State in the NCAA semifinals.
• Dean’s signature win came against Penn State’s two-time defending national champion Ed Ruth at the Southern Scuffle,
avenging one of his two losses from early in the season and snapping Ruth’s 84-match win streak dating back to 2011.
• The win earned him U.S.A. Wrestling and EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors and he was featured in Sports Illustrated’s
“Faces In The Crowd” for the Jan. 20, 2014 issue.
• He won the New York State Intercollegiates, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle and placed
