state. It is also known as “<strong>Coorg</strong>”. It is the one of the most scenic destinations of <strong>India</strong>. It is a<br />

<strong>co</strong>mplete package of holidays as honeymoon, adventure, wildlife safari, wildlife sanctuary,<br />

rivers, waterfalls, shopping, and lavish meadows.


<strong>The</strong> honeymoon destination “Madikeri” is a hill station, is also known as Mercara. It is a calm<br />

and quiet place, with enchanting fragrance of <strong>co</strong>ffee. It has god gifted nature, lush greenery, the<br />

<strong>co</strong>ol winds from the flowing holy river Kaveri, make your thoughts true.


<strong>The</strong>re are many places to visit here such as “Raja Seat” is built on high level ground<br />

<strong>co</strong>mmanding view of the cliffs and the valleys to west. It is a structure of brick and mortar four<br />

pillar bridge with arches, surrounded by the enhanced beauty. This is a spot where the Rajas<br />

love to watch the sun rise and sun settings, and they were often spent their time with queens<br />

here. When early in the morning sun rises in the east, the mist shrouded the valley below the<br />

offers a rare sight and when the sun sets in the evening the golden light gives it a splendor view<br />

to watch.


After the Raja Seat there another destination is “Madikeri Fort” which was built in the 17th<br />

century. It has two life size masonry elephant, church in the south <strong>–</strong> east <strong>co</strong>rner, and a famous<br />

Lord Ganesha temple (also known as Kote Ganpati) is present there, just at the main entrance<br />

of the fort. <strong>The</strong>re is museum in the fort, which has several historical stuffs.


<strong>The</strong> next place is a temple “Omkareshwar temple” which was built by king Lingarajendra in<br />

1820. It is a historical temple of Lord Shiva.


After a honeymoon destination, if you want some wildlife adventure and pictures than<br />

“Nagarhole National Park” is a perfect destination for you which is also known as Rajeev<br />

Gandhi National Park. <strong>The</strong> park has rich forest, hills, streams, valleys and waterfalls. <strong>The</strong>re<br />

you can see many trees such as rosewood, teak, sandalwood and silver oak, <strong>India</strong>n kino tree,<br />

etc. <strong>The</strong>re are many species of wildlife animals like a Bengal tiger, <strong>India</strong>n bison or gaur, <strong>India</strong>n<br />

elephants, leopard, golden jackals, grey mongoose, sloth bears, striped hyena, chital. Reptiles<br />

like different species of snake, ciper, cro<strong>co</strong>dile, and toad.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are over 270 species of birds like white-backed vulture, greater spotted eagle (Aquila<br />

changa), Nilgiri wood-pigeon (Columba elphinstonii, darters, oriental white ibis, Malabar grey<br />

hornbill, etc. <strong>The</strong>se are just a few there is a lot more to see. But be cautious because they are<br />

wild animals, but it some different kind of adventure, you will behave like a wildlife<br />

photographer. After all, you will never going to see this sight.


After the wildlife sanctuary visit now move “Somwarpet” is famous for waterfalls, it has lush<br />

green fields of <strong>co</strong>ffee, rice, cardamom, peppers, oranges, and ginger. It has golf club <strong>–</strong><br />

“Beelur golf club”, a worship place <strong>–</strong> Malemalleshwara Betta, and “Kotebetta” is the<br />

highest peak after Tadiyandamol and Brahmagiri, it 1620 meters above from the sea level<br />

there you can do trekking also.


If you love nature then the “Abbi falls” is a perfect destination, this is surrounded by the<br />

<strong>co</strong>ffee and pepper plantation. Its flow is much higher in the monsoon season; you can a take<br />

view of this fall from the well laid road till the <strong>co</strong>ffee estate. You can hear the roar of the falls<br />

from the road.


After the “Abbi Falls” next is “Mallalli Falls” is 25 km far from Somwarpet, it gives you a<br />

much better view than the Abbi Falls, it lies at feet of Puspagiri Hill Ranges, where<br />

Kumaradhara river takes a plunge over 200 feet. Monsoon as usual is the best time to see the<br />

real Mallalli Falls as there will be plenty of water which gushes down from the river and the<br />

mist and the green hills around adds to the beauty of Mallalli Falls and the water usually dries<br />

up during summer. Sit on the rock and dip your feet into flowing water, it will give you rest<br />

and joyful jerks; you can see it from the road.<br />
