Kingston Frontenacs’ Michael Dal
Colle, among his many hockey skills,
has more of one intangible than
anyone else in the openinground playoff
series between his team and the Oshawa
Generals.
Dal Colle has played in 42 Ontario
Hockey League playoff games and he and
teammate Stephen Desrocher were on
the Oshawa Generals team that won the
Memorial Cup last year. General manager
Doug Gilmour said obtaining Dal Colle
and Desrocher made double sense to the
Frontenacs.
They were great in the regular season
for the Frontenacs. The fact they both have
been on a Memorial Cup winning run has a
value that can’t be undersold, said Gilmour.
“They have been through it and know
what it is going to take. Nothing is easy,”
Gilmour said.
“With (Dal Colle and Desrocher), with
Watty, Lawson, Roland and Chad, they are
going to be ones leading. It’s a learning
curve for everybody.”
Dal Colle said after having deep runs
every year when he was in Oshawa, to face
the Generals in the first round will be “a
little bit weird at first”
“They are my enemy now. They are a
good team and are going to play us hard,”
Dal Colle said.
“We have to play the right way. Play our
A game to win.”
The 19-year-old Dal Colle has scored
18 goals and 54 points in the playoffs. He
won’t have quite the same nervous edge
compared to his younger teammates who
lack playoff experience.
“There will be some nerves for some of
the young guys. Hopefully I can calm guys
down through it. There’s going to be some
highs and lows especially when you want to
go far,” Dal Colle said.
“Make no mistake about it — our goal is
to win the OHL and go on to the Memorial
Cup.”
