<strong>Spring</strong> Election and Presidential Preference Primary will be held Tuesday, April 5, <strong>2016</strong><br />
The <strong>Spring</strong> Election and Presidential Preference Primary on April 5, <strong>2016</strong> will include the Office of the President of the<br />
United States, State Supreme Court Justice, Court of Appeals Judge, Circuit Court Judge, County, Municipal and School<br />
District nonpartisan offices. The local municipal ballot includes candidates for City of Marinette Office of Alderperson for<br />
Wards 1, 2, 4 and At-Large Seat. The School District of Marinette will be listing open seats for School Board members<br />
and County of Marinette will list all County Board seats that serve residents within the City. Early in-person absentee<br />
voting at the City Clerk’s Office commences on Monday March 21, <strong>2016</strong>. If a <strong>Spring</strong> Primary Election is necessary, the<br />
primary will be held on Tuesday, February 16, <strong>2016</strong> and early in-person absentee voting at the City Clerk’s Office would<br />
commence on Monday February 1, <strong>2016</strong>. For more information as to voter registration status or where you vote go to the<br />

For your convenience, payment of Traffic & Ordinance Citations can now be made online - 24 hours / 7 days a week using<br />
your credit, debit or pre-paid debit card at www.GovPayNow.com. You will need your citation number and Marinette<br />
Municipal Court’s Pay Location Code (PLC) of 5001. All major credit cards are accepted. GovPayNet is an independent<br />
company that charges a fee for its services. Marinette Municipal Court receives no part of the service fee which is paid<br />

SECURE YOUR BICYCLE FROM THEFT!<br />
With nice weather fast approaching and the use of bikes increasing, The Marinette Police Department asks that everyone<br />
remembers to lock up their bikes at all times. Bicycles thefts are one of the most reported thefts occurring in the City of<br />
Marinette and we turn over many unclaimed bikes for resale quarterly. If you lock up your bike there is less chance of it<br />
being stolen. If you do lose your bike, remember to report it to the Marinette Police Department at 715-732-5200. This<br />
will ensure it is returned to the rightful owner if we recover it.<br />

The City of Marinette pavilions are available for rental usage 7 days a week. They are open from May - September at City<br />
Park, Fred Carney Park, Red Arrow and Stephenson Island. Enclosed pavilion amenities include a large cooking range,<br />
refrigerator/freezer, a long buffet counter with outlets for serving, hot and cold running water and sink for cleanup. Inside<br />
seating capacity is 60 individuals and additional outdoor seating for more than 200 individuals is available. All locations<br />
have playground areas. Call the City Clerk’s office at 715.732.5140, to check pavilion availability and to make your<br />
summer party reservation today!
EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM<br />
To be better prepare the City of Marinette for weather emergencies, outdoor weather warning sirens will be<br />
upgraded for this spring. Weather warning sirens are at the following locations:<br />
1.Merryman School siren will be upgraded with a new unit.<br />
2.Spruce Street siren is being upgraded to new and will be relocated to the Park School area near the<br />
intersection of Owena Street and Parkdale Avenue.<br />
3.Two new sirens will be placed at the Pierce Avenue water tower (corner of Pierce Avenue and Edwin<br />
Street) and in the Industrial Park on Roosevelt Road.<br />
County Wide Emergency Mass Notification System is available on the City of Marinette’s website home page. Please click<br />
on the link at the bottom of our home page and sign up today to receive emergency notifications.<br />

Public Works Department<br />
SPRING CLEANING<br />
The Public Works Department would like to remind the residents of Marinette, how to properly dispose of<br />
spring clean-up yard and junk waste. Please follow the City Lines calendars on the back of the newsletter for<br />
the proper yard and junk week schedule. Please have yard waste or junk put out by 7:00 AM for pick up. Large<br />
items, junk, stumps, yard waste and garbage may be dropped off at the City Dump, 2411 Cleveland Avenue,<br />
Marinette. Hours of operation are Wednesdays 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM and Saturdays 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Items<br />
NOT accepted at the dump site include roofing, tar paper, paint, white goods, tires, bricks, blocks or rocks and<br />
microwaves.<br />
LARGE ITEM PICK UP<br />
Large item pickup service is available for $10.00 per item, which is payable at the Civic Center, 2000 Alice<br />
Lane. You will need a City Services Card to process a large item pickup order. City Services Cards are issued<br />
at the Civic Center. The cards are free; however, the card must be preloaded with enough funds to cover the<br />
cost of the service when scheduling an order. After the Large Item Pick Up order is processed, the<br />
Department of Public Works will contact you, via phone, to let you know when the item(s) will be picked up.<br />
Item(s) must be placed on the curb or in the alley for pick up. No item(s) will be removed from inside a<br />
residence. If you have any questions regarding large item pick up, please contact the Civic Center at<br />
715.732.5222.<br />
City Clerk’s Office – Make Plans, <strong>Spring</strong> Is Here!<br />
<strong>2016</strong> Boat Launch Permit stickers available -<br />
City of Marinette annual boat launch stickers can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office, 1905 Hall Ave.; City of Marinette<br />
Recreation Department at the Civic Center, 2000 Alice Lane. Stickers are valid for all public launches on the Wisconsin<br />
side of Menominee River from Hattie St. Bridge downstream to the mouth of the Menominee River. The permit fee is
$25.00 for the first boat trailer sticker and $5.00 for each additional boat trailer owned by the same person. Boat owners<br />
purchasing additional stickers must provide registration information at the time of the purchase for each boat they own.<br />
Boat launch permit stickers must be permanently affixed to the driver’s side of the boat trailer tongue. Daily boat launch<br />
permit fee is $3.00 payable at each launch site.<br />
City Park Campground opens May 1 st - Overnight camping available in sites in designated areas west of the park pavilion<br />
for $20.00 per night. Some sites offer electrical hookups. Showers and flush toilets are also available. Campfires are<br />
allowed in designated fire pits within City Park campground.<br />
City of Marinette Clerk’s Office annual Dog Licensing Reminder<br />
DOG LICENSE TAGS NOW AVAILABLE – City of Marinette resident dog owners are reminded that a rabies vaccination<br />
and dog license tags are required under State Law. City residents shall obtain annual <strong>2016</strong> dog license & tag at the City of<br />
Marinette Clerk’s Office, 1905 Hall Ave., Marinette WI. All dog license applicants must present a certificate of current<br />
rabies vaccination. Those certificates are obtained at your veterinarian’s office. Dogs within the State of Wisconsin must<br />
be licensed annually. Current City of Marinette dog licensing fees are as follows:<br />
$5.00 annual dog license fee for dogs over five (5) months of age that are neutered or spayed and license is issued<br />
prior to April 1, <strong>2016</strong>.<br />
$10.00 annual dog license fee for dogs over five (5) months of age that are not neutered or spayed and license is<br />
issued prior to April 1, <strong>2016</strong>.<br />
$10.00 (includes $5.00 late filing fee penalty) annual dog license fee for dogs over five (5) months of age that are<br />
neutered or spayed and license is issued on or after April 1, <strong>2016</strong>.<br />
$15.00 (includes $5.00 late fee penalty) annual dog license fee for dogs over five (5) months of age that are not<br />
neutered or spayed and license is issued on or after April 1, <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

Marinette Market on Stephenson Island<br />
Starting June 3 rd , <strong>2016</strong> Stephenson Island will host Marinette Market every Friday from 2-6pm until October 28 th (weather<br />
permitting). Stop by and pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious baked goods, craftsmanship of local artists and<br />

Marinette Recreation Department Events<br />
We’ve got plenty of reasons to get outside and get moving in the New Year!<br />
Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Courts are available year-round at the Civic Center Domes. The court rate is $28 per hour,<br />
per court for adults, and $16 per hour, per court for students.<br />
Court #1 in the Tennis Dome is marked for PICKLE BALL! Regular court fees apply. Balls and paddles available at the<br />
front desk, or bring your own.<br />
Indoor Walking and Running Don’t let inclement weather ruin your walking or running routine! An indoor facility with an<br />
asphalt surface is available at the Civic Center whenever tennis players are not using the courts, beginning at 7:45 AM<br />
each day. 10 1/2 laps around the dome equal one mile. There is no charge.<br />
Disc Golf<br />
Our premier 18-hole course is located at Marinette City Park; the course is FREE for use. Discs are available for use at<br />
the Civic Center and can be checked out with a $20.00 per set deposit. The deposit is returned in full when the three-disc<br />
set is returned. (Lost discs result in forfeiture of your deposit.) Score cards and course maps are also available at the<br />
Civic Center.<br />
SUPERVISED PLAYGROUNDS<br />
Playgrounds are open to school-aged children ages five and older. Three city-sponsored playgrounds are staffed by<br />
supervisors who are trained to offer fun activities for children. The School District of Marinette will provide FREE<br />
breakfast and lunch at all sites throughout the summer. Playgrounds will be open for the season June 6 through August<br />
11. Children are free to come and go as they wish, so parents should plan accordingly. This is not a substitute for<br />
daycare. It’s an opportunity for supervised play for school-aged children. - There is NO CHARGE for participation in this<br />
program.<br />
Bend and Stretch Exercise Class features flexibility and floor exercises and incorporates the use of light weights with<br />
great success for participants! Class meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00-9:45 AM at the Duer Gym, 402<br />
Williams Street.<br />
Punch cards (7 classes) cost $10.50 for city residents or $16 for non-city residents and are available at the Civic Center.<br />

MAKING WAVES<br />
-A brief history of the City’s newest sculpture by Professor James LaMalfa<br />
Enjoy The Great Wave, an 18 foot sculpture at the intersection of Ely St./Main St./Newberry Av/Church St.<br />
The idea for a large laminated wood sculpture was sparked by my viewing of a block print made by the master Japanese<br />
wood cut artist Hokusai, entitled “The Great Wave Of Kanagawa”. The print depicts a giant wave about crash down onto<br />
a boat with fishermen frantically trying to escape. Mount Fuji sits serenely in the distance. I did not copy the image as<br />
much as use the idea of waves to create a drawing then a scale model of the sculpture. I took my idea to City Engineer<br />
Brian Miller who approved it, then to the then mayor Denise Ruleau who also approved it. After that I costed out the<br />
sculpture and began raising money from donors, among them Bank Mutual, Winsert and myself. Our new mayor Steve<br />
Genisot continued the support I enjoyed with Denise. The City contributed to the installation cost once the piece had<br />
been completed. I worked closely with the good folks at Wildlife Décor LLC, highway 64 and Andreas Rhude at Sentinel<br />
Structures, Peshtigo to create the piece. The City Council of Marinette and the Civic Affairs Committee were also<br />
involved. Once the laminated southern yellow pine elements of the piece were cut out and delivered to the City’s wood<br />
shop Brian contacted Mike Beal to plan the installation of the piece which is made up of sections of treated wood and<br />
stainless steel. We were able to work into November 2015 because of the mild fall weather. The piece is totally finished<br />
with the installation of lights at the base that illuminate the sculpture at night and dramatically highlight its flowing lines.<br />
As an artist I particularly enjoy designing public art so that all the public may enjoy it not just gallery goers. I<br />
created a large stainless steel fish sculpture at Menominee’s Waterfront Park, two pieces on the Fine Art’s<br />
Building at the UW and murals in both City Halls. I am presently working with the City of Marinette and<br />
Marinette Marine to design and place a new stainless steel sculpture near Marinette Marine illustrating LCS 5,<br />
the USS Milwaukee, a welder, logger and our lighthouse.<br />

Are you 50 years of age or older? Then you qualify to become a member and join in<br />
on the activities, resources and benefits of the Marinette Senior Center. A yearly<br />
membership costs only $5.00 per person or $9.00 for a couple! Want to join a class<br />
but you’re not of age? No problem. We offer several intergenerational programs too!<br />
New members are always welcome!<br />
Your Center offers several exercise classes for every fitness level! We usually enjoy<br />
at least one party per month! Make sure to check out our monthly newsletter for<br />
educational speaker programs, art classes, wellness clinics, dance, yoga and more!<br />
We also have an in house partnership with Marinette County Elderly Services. They prepare and serve delicious meals<br />
Monday through Friday on site at a very reasonable cost. Home delivery is also available for people in need.<br />
