City Clerk’s Office – Make Plans, Spring Is Here!<br />

PUBLIC REMINDER - all WINTER GRAVE DECORATIONS must be removed from graves within Forest Home, Woodlawn,<br />

Calvary, Congregation Montifiore, Sons of Jacob and Pine Grove Cemeteries prior to Friday March 31, <strong>2017</strong>. Cemetery<br />

grounds maintenance staff shall dispose of all decorations left on graves starting on that date. At the conclusion of<br />

<strong>spring</strong> clean-up activities and winter burial-site restoration is completed an announcement in local media will be made<br />

establishing the date when summer decorations may be placed on graves prior to Memorial Day. Cemetery grounds<br />

maintenance staff shall dispose of any summer decorations set upon graves prior to that time. Decorations are<br />

prohibited anytime within Forest Home Mausoleum without prior permission of Mausoleum attendant. The City of<br />

Marinette is not responsible or liable for any memorial items placed by grave lots within City of Marinette Cemeteries.<br />

SECURE YOUR BICYCLE FROM THEFT!<br />

With nice weather fast approaching and the use of bikes increasing, The Marinette Police Department asks that<br />

everyone remembers to lock up their bikes at all times. Bicycles thefts are one of the most reported thefts occurring in<br />

the City of Marinette and we turn over many unclaimed bikes for resale quarterly. If you lock up your bike there is less<br />

chance of it being stolen. If you do lose your bike, remember to report it to the Marinette Police Department at 715-<br />

732-5200. This will ensure it is returned to the rightful owner if we recover it.<br />

<strong>2017</strong> Boat Launch Permit stickers available<br />

City of Marinette annual boat launch stickers can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office, 1905 Hall Ave.; City of Marinette<br />

Recreation Department at the Civic Center, 2000 Alice Lane. Stickers are valid for all public launches on the Wisconsin<br />

side of Menominee River from Hattie St. Bridge downstream to the mouth of the Menominee River. The permit fee is<br />

$25.00 for the first boat trailer sticker and $5.00 for each additional boat trailer owned by the same person. Boat owners<br />

purchasing additional stickers must provide registration information at the time of the purchase for each boat they own.<br />

Boat launch permit stickers must be permanently affixed to the driver’s side of the boat trailer tongue. Daily boat launch<br />

permit fee is $3.00 payable at each launch site.<br />

City Park Campground opens May 1st - Overnight camping available in sites in designated areas west of the park<br />

pavilion for $20.00 per night. Some sites offer electrical hookups. Showers and flush toilets are also available. Campfires<br />

are allowed in designated fire pits within City Park campground.

The City of Marinette pavilions are available for rental usage 7 days a week. They are open from May - September at City<br />

Park, Fred Carney Park, Red Arrow and Stephenson Island. Enclosed pavilion amenities include a large cooking range,<br />

refrigerator/freezer, a long buffet counter with outlets for serving, hot and cold running water and sink for cleanup. Inside<br />

seating capacity is 60 individuals and additional outdoor seating for more than 200 individuals is available. All locations<br />

have playground areas. Call the City Clerk’s office at 715.732.5140, to check pavilion availability and to make your<br />

summer party reservation today!<br />

Municipal Court – Pay Fines or Fees Online<br />

Marinette Municipal Court would like to remind the public that the “deposit” amount shown on all traffic and city<br />

ordinance citations are due on the court date. If payment cannot be made in full by the court date, defendants must<br />

appear on the court date (even if “Appearance Required” is marked “No”) to set up payment arrangements with the<br />

Municipal Judge.<br />

For your convenience, payments can be made after 4:00 PM and on weekends at the silver Drop Box located in the<br />

parking lot to the west of the Post Office (near outside drive-through mailboxes). Please include a copy of your citation<br />

with your check or money order in an envelope. DO NOT PUT CASH IN THE DROP BOX!<br />

Payments can also be made online with a credit card or debit card using Government Payment Service. There is an<br />

additional fee for this service and the company will send a check to the court so your payment will not be credited for 3-<br />

5 working days after payment is made. Visit this website: www.GovPayNOW.com and use Pay Code 5001.<br />

Fire Department<br />

2016 recreational fire permits expire March 31, <strong>2017</strong>.<br />

Permits can be renewed at the Marinette Fire Department during normal business hours, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm for<br />

$10.00.<br />

****These permits are required by Marinette Municipal Code.<br />

Police Department<br />

A reminder to pet owners that per city ordinance 9.0311, they are responsible for cleaning up after their pets on any<br />

property – public or private. This refers to: streets; sidewalks; all city parks; and any privately owned lot or yard.<br />

Under city ordinance 9.0306(A)(2) any pet outside the owners vehicle or property must be secured on a leash no longer<br />

than 6 feet in length.<br />

****Violations of any of these ordinances are subject to fines.****<br />

Bicycle season is approaching. Vehicle operators should be aware of bicyclists operating on the roadways. Bicyclists are<br />

required to follow traffic laws and rules of the road.


Public Works Department<br />

SPRING CLEANING<br />

The Public Works Department would like to remind the residents of Marinette, how to properly dispose of <strong>spring</strong> cleanup<br />

yard and junk waste. Please follow the City Lines calendars on the back of the newsletter for the proper yard and junk<br />

week schedule. Please have yard waste or junk put out by 7:00 AM for pick up. Large items, junk, stumps, yard waste<br />

and garbage may be dropped off at the City Dump, 2411 Cleveland Avenue, Marinette. The NEW hours of operation are:<br />

Wednesdays, starting on April 19 th , 8:30AM – 4:30PM - AND - Saturdays, starting on April 15 th , 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.<br />

******PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE CHANGE IN HOURS OF OPERATION FOR THE CITY DUMP ******<br />

Starting on Monday, April 17 th , a yard waste and brush drop off site will be available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Drop<br />

off will be located at the City of Marinette Garage, 2411 Cleveland Avenue. NO OTHER ITEMS WILL BE ALLOWED AT<br />

THIS DROP OFF SITE. CAMERAS WILL BE IN USE AT THE DROP OFF SITE AND VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED.<br />

The City and Waste Management will now be accepting #3-7 plastics, along with the current #1 and #2 plastics.<br />

Goodwill Industries of Marinette is currently accepting computers & electronics for FREE! TV’S ARE NOT ACCEPTED!<br />

Florescent light bulbs containing mercury are accepted at the Marinette Wastewater Utility, located at 1603 Ely Street,<br />

Monday –Friday, 7:30AM – 2:30PM. Fees vary.<br />

REMINDER:<br />

IT IS ILLEGAL TO DEPOSIT GRASS & LEAVES INTO CITY STREETS & STORM GUTTERS. This includes the<br />

blowing of grass or leaves with a lawnmower or leaf blower. City Ordnance 8>0112(a). Remove grass<br />

and other lawn trimmings that may have fallen into the storm gutter system. This debris plugs the city<br />

storm sewers, causing flooding issues during rain events.<br />

THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD POUR DOWN A STORM SEWER IS WATER. DUMP NO WASTE!!! With<br />

<strong>spring</strong> here, and summer right around the corner, please remember to use caution when applying any<br />

type of chemical to your lawn near the storm gutters.<br />

Marinette Welcome Center<br />

The Marinette Welcome Center will once again be sponsoring the “EASTER<br />

BASKET” Project for our community.<br />

Prefilled baskets will be donated to children’s of needy families identified through<br />

the local schools in our area, the local hospitals, churches, fire departments, police<br />

department, Human Services, Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul, the Rainbow<br />

House, NewCap and Abundant Life Mission and Shelter. If a business, organization,<br />

church group, scout troop, would like to contribute; all baskets should be brought<br />

to the Marinette Welcome Center, 1680 Bridge Street, Marinette, prior to April 12<br />

to ensure distribution through non-profit agencies. This can be a fun and exciting<br />

completion between business departments, scout troops, etc. One basket from<br />

each person, place of business, agency, department, organization, etc. can help to<br />

make a difference. No child should be forgotten. Baskets should be identified as for<br />

a boy or girl, and approximate age, if possible. There are children in the 6-10 years<br />

old and PRE-TEENS, as well.<br />

If you wish to participate, but not assemble a basket, we have volunteers who will shop and put a basket together for you. The cost<br />

is $10, which covers the cost of the basket, the wrap, bow and contents. Donations can be sent or delivered to the Welcome Center.<br />

Marinette Recreation Department Events<br />

RECREATION DEPARTMENT AQUATICS<br />

The Civic Center Pool is an outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool with a .75 meter diving board and a water slide. A<br />

wading pool is available for children ages 7 and under who are accompanied by an adult. The pool is open Monday, June<br />

12 through Friday, August 25.<br />

Open swim hours:<br />

1:00-4:30 PM and 6:15-8:15 PM daily through August 18. No evening swim August 19-25.<br />

Daily admission:<br />

Youth $2.50<br />

Adults $4.00<br />

There is no charge to use the wading pool.<br />

Pool opening requirements include a minimum air temperature of 65 degrees during the day and 70 degrees for evening<br />

swimming. If there are less than ten swimmers, wading pool and big pool combined, within 60 minutes of opening time<br />

during the day and 30 minutes at night, the pool will be closed and any cash customers’ money refunded.<br />

Season Passes allow unlimited use of the pool during open swim and adult swim times. They are not valid for swimming<br />

lessons. Passes are not transferable, and may be used only by the purchaser.<br />

Air mattresses, tubes, or rafts are not permitted in the pool. Noodles and back floats are available.<br />

Private Pool Rentals Available for birthday parties, holiday activities, and private groups from 10:00 AM to noon daily, or<br />

after 8:30 PM. The rental fee is $60.00 per hour for city residents, and $100.00 per hour for non-residents. Wading<br />

pool rentals are available from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon, and cost $25.00 per hour.<br />

Swimming Lessons<br />

Cost: $23.00 city residents; $40.00 non-residents<br />

Swimming Lessons held Monday through Thursday at 10:30 AM or at 5:00 PM Monday/Wednesday. There are seven<br />

classes per session.<br />

Morning Sessions, 10:30 AM:<br />

Monday through Thursday: Session 1: June 12 to June 21 (MHS Pool)<br />

Session 2: July 10 to July 19 (Civic Center)<br />

Session 3: July 24 to Aug. 2 (Civic Center)<br />

Evening Sessions, 5:00 PM, Civic Center Pool:<br />

Monday and Wednesday Session 1: June 12 to July 3<br />

Session 2: July 10 to July 31<br />

Private Swimming Lessons<br />

Private lessons are available for individuals of any age. Private lessons are held Monday/Wednesday or<br />

Tuesday/Thursday from 12:15 to 12:45 PM or Tuesday/Thursday from 5:00-5:30 PM or 5:30-6:00 PM, all at the Civic<br />

Center Pool. The cost is $45.00 for Marinette city residents or $75.00 for non-residents.


Junior Lifeguarding<br />

This program is designed for those children ages 11-14 who are looking to do more in the area of aquatics. This is an<br />

introduction to lifeguarding program for children who are interested in becoming a certified lifeguard one day. The class<br />

helps students to develop a deeper appreciation of the water and build a stronger foundation of aquatic and leadership<br />

skills and knowledge for a future career in lifeguarding. Skill presentation will include first aid, CPR and AED, safety and<br />

basic rescues and swimming endurance. This course does not certify students to be lifeguards, but it acts as a stepping<br />

stone for those who are not yet old enough to take certifying lifeguarding courses.<br />

The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-1 PM at the Civic Center Pool from June 13 to July 27.<br />

Additional on-deck opportunities will be available to students during the month of August. The cost of participation is<br />

$40.00 for Marinette city residents and $60.00 for non-city residents. Fees are payable at the time of registration.<br />

Pool Birthday Parties are available during any open swim session! Fees include the assistance of one of our amazing<br />

staff members, pool admission, reserved space on the pool deck, and a personalized 1/4 sheet cake, plates, forks,<br />

napkins, cups and juice to enjoy in the snack shack area. Parties must be paid in full at the time reservations are made.<br />

Sorry, phone reservations are not accepted.<br />

Fees: 1-9 children-$65.00; 10-14 children-$70.00; 15-19 children-$75.00; Each additional child, $5.00<br />

PICKLEBALL<br />

Courts are marked inside the Civic Center Domes as well as located at Division Street for Pickle Ball. Pickleball fees are<br />

$3.00 per player at the Civic Center, and there is no charge for use of the outdoor courts at Division Street.<br />

Official rules for Pickle Ball can be found at www.pickleball.com/Rules.aspx. Paddles are available for use at the Civic<br />

Center courts—ask at the front desk.<br />

Pickleball 101 on Wednesdays from 5-6 PM will be offered to anyone interested in doing some drilling and improving<br />

their game, but beginners will be prioritized. Bring a friend and try something new! Open play will follow from 6-8 PM.<br />

Pickleball Open Play is hosted by the Friends of Pickleball on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8 PM. Fees are<br />

$3.00 per person for indoor play, payable at the front desk at the Civic Center.<br />

Round Robin Tournament Play is scheduled the first Saturday of every month beginning at 10 AM. Fees are $10 per<br />

player, with awards to the top finishers. Pre-register at the Civic Center front desk, with payment made at the time of<br />

registration. Tournament dates are May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5 and September 2.<br />

Youth Clinics for ages 10 and up are held the second Saturday of every month from 10 AM until 2 PM. Younger children<br />

may participate if a parent remains onsite. Participation fees are $5.00 per week, payable at the time of registration at<br />

the Civic Center front desk. Pre-registration is required. Youth Clinic dates are May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12 and<br />

September 9.<br />

Special Event! Just Kids’ Stuff Community Sale, Saturday, May 20, 8 AM to noon at the Duer Gym, 402 Williams<br />

Street. Kids – it’s time to clean your closets! Rent a 10’ x 10’ space on the playground at the Duer Gym to sell your<br />

excess toys, games and clothing for $1.00. Pre-register at the Civic Center to assure yourself a space. Leftover spaces<br />

available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring your own table. Rain/overflow site-inside the gym. No adult<br />

participants allowed, and only “kid’s stuff’ may be sold.


T-Ball<br />

Boys & girls ages three to six—get set to learn the fundamentals of baseball!<br />

The first week is set geared to help young athletes and their parents learn the basics of the game and skills that can be<br />

practiced at home. Instructors will then split the players into teams, and everyone will receive their game schedule and<br />

t-shirt for the remainder of the season.<br />

Saturday mornings at 9 AM for 7 weeks (June 10 to July 22. Rain games are not made up.<br />

Fees: City residents $23<br />

Non-residents $40<br />

Supervised Playgrounds<br />

There is NO CHARGE for participation in this program. Playgrounds are open to school-aged children ages five and older.<br />

Three city-sponsored playgrounds are staffed by supervisors who are trained to offer fun activities for children. The<br />

School District of Marinette will provide FREE breakfast and lunch at all sites throughout the summer. Playgrounds will<br />

be open for the season June 12 through August 17. Children are free to come and go as they wish, so parents should<br />

plan accordingly. This is not a substitute for daycare. It’s an opportunity for supervised play for school-aged children.<br />

Playground hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Supervised playgrounds are located at Fred<br />

Carney Park (230 Ogden Street), the Duer Gym (402 Williams Street) and at Higley Field (2001 Carney Avenue).<br />

4 th ANNUAL POND ROAD BIRDFEST- SATURDAY, MAY 13, <strong>2017</strong><br />

Are you interested in birds, seeing them up close or through binoculars? The Birdfest is a great time for you and your<br />

children to learn about the birds that come through our area every year.<br />

Chappee Rapids Audubon Society will hold its 4th Annual Birdfest on May 13 th at the observation deck on Pond Road.<br />

The event is held in conjunction with Marinette’s Bird City Wisconsin accreditation. The day also celebrates<br />

International Migratory Bird Day which is observed across both North & South American continents.<br />

To find the deck, take Shore Dr. south, at University it becomes Co BB, follow that for approx. 7 miles, take a left onto<br />

Pond Road and go approx. ½ mile to the deck. There will be a sign at Pond Road.<br />

Chamber Seeks Educator Award Nominations<br />

The Marinette Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its Achievement in Education<br />

Awards. Each year the Marinette Menominee Chamber recognizes educators or supporters of education, who exemplify<br />

the high standard of education that exists in our area. We’re proud to showcase the dedicated individuals and<br />

organizations who tirelessly dedicate themselves to enriching our communities.<br />

Nominations will be accepted for three categories:<br />

Educators, support staff and volunteers from PreK-12 institutions in Marinette County<br />

Educators, support staff and volunteers from PreK-12 institutions in Menominee County<br />

Other Educational Program or Individual<br />

Judging is based on criteria such as significant contributions to education, leadership, impact on learning, and<br />

government or civic involvement. Anyone may nominate an educator, member of support staff, volunteer or<br />

educational program or resource that supports education in Menominee or Marinette counties. Nomination forms are<br />

available on the Marinette Menominee Chamber of Commerce web site, www.mandmchamber.com and will be<br />

The Marinette Senior Center<br />

Are you 50 years of age or older? Then you qualify to become a member and join in on the<br />

activities, resources and benefits of the Marinette Senior Center. A yearly membership costs<br />

only $5.00 per person or $9.00 for a couple! Want to join a class but you’re not of age? No<br />

problem. We offer several intergenerational programs too!<br />

New members are always welcome!<br />

Your Center offers several exercise classes for every fitness level! We usually enjoy at least<br />

one party per month! Make sure to check out our monthly newsletter for educational speaker programs, art classes,<br />

wellness clinics, dance, yoga and more! We also have an in house partnership with Marinette County Elderly Services.<br />

They prepare and serve delicious meals Monday through Friday on site at a very reasonable cost. Home delivery is also<br />

available for people in need.<br />

Become a member or volunteer! Our members get special discounts on classes and are invited to the Membership<br />

Extravaganza Party each <strong>spring</strong>! Discover the Marinette Senior Center; your community’s adult resource center! Stop in<br />
