Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary
Hello everybody. This is a joint programme to cover both the Hythe Town and Faversham Town
games. Welcome to Woodstock to the Hythe Town and Faversham Town players, official and
supporters, our own supporters and todays officials. Special thanks to Sparshatts Sittingbourne
for sponsoring the Faversham game. Sparshatts are the local Mercedez Benz Truck and van
supplier based on the Eurolink.
We went down 5-3 to Walton Casuals at Merstham a couple of weeks ago and this result carried
on with our usual sequence of Win, lose, Win, Lose etc, however without a “no decision”
from the referee when Jack Steventon was fouled things could have been different!
The last home match saw us play Peacehaven & Telscombe. Peacehaven have had a turbulent
recent history. They were relegated from the Ryman Premier League last season and then their
Chairman and benefactor passed away in mid season causing funding to be drastically reduced.
They are now only able to pay their players minimal expenses. This has caused the majority of
experienced players to leave for other clubs. Particularly in the first half our quality showed and
it looked like "men against boys". Certainly Sittingbourne should have had more than a 2-0 half
time lead to show for their efforts. The second half was somewhat of a Ryan Burbridge show.
The Peacehaven goalkeeper, who had a trial at Sittingbourne at the beginning of this season,
was superb and was instrumental in keeping the score respectable. Peacehaven are a prime
example of why clubs should not rely on one person to bankroll a club.
New signing Adam Allen had an excellent debut. Adam Allen is Nick Davis's third signing in as
many weeks in preparation for next season. The other two, Scott Whibley and Tom Carlse have
already become supporters favourites and have certainly improved the team.
The highlight of the Peacehaven match was probably when 16 years old Jake Embery came on
for only his second substitute appearance and within seconds, and with his first touch of the
game, blasted the ball into the Peacehaven net from a difficult angle. Jake is the son of Sittingbourne’s
ex QPR Under 18 and Under 21 manager John Embery.
Our last match saw us gain a good draw at Chipstead, a side that put 6 passed us here at
Woodstock earlier in the season.
Finally many congratulations to our under 18’s side for defeating Dover Athletic 4-2 at Homelands
to win the under 18 Kent Cup. More about
this later on in the programme.
