STANFORD MEDICINE X | HEALTH CARE INNOVATION DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE convenings MEDICINE “ Because of Medicine X, I can see my dreams more clearly and work toward them with purpose.” Susannah Fox, Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The word “convene” has been used since the 15th century, meaning “to come together, usually for some public purpose.” This is the essential intent of our convenings: Stanford Medicine X conferences celebrate the coming together of diverse stakeholders and participants who share a common dedication to changing health care for the better. The commonalities that are discovered and the collaborations that are created at these convenings generate an explosive energy that cannot be felt at a distance. Each conference has a different focus. While our flagship event, Medicine X, focuses on the future of healthcare, Medicine X | ED takes as its theme the future of medical education and research. Global pop-ups pursue a focused topic, driven by location and the interests of the organizers. In coming together, our goal is to share as many ideas as widely as possible from as many sources as possible. Sessions range from five-minute Ignite! presentations to 90-minute, in-depth, masterclasses with prominent thought leaders at Medicine X, whereas pop-ups feature four to five speakers in a 90-minute panel presentation format. All of these events offer ample opportunities for sponsors and partners to showcase products and services, receive focused feedback, and uncover potential addressable gaps in the marketplace. MEDICINE X The annual Medicine X fall conference is a uniquely inclusive gathering that attracts physicians, residents, students, researchers, patients, social media experts, and others. From five-minute Ignite! talks that provide a lightning-fast take on an issue or problem, to in-depth masterclasses probing the most intractable problems in healthcare with worldrenowned experts, Stanford Medicine X conferences seek to highlight real patients, focus on real problems, and generate real solutions. Unlike many academic medical conferences that feature dry recitations of research conducted and results observed, Medicine X is a proactive, collaborative conference that seeks to generate new ideas in real time with a diverse array of contributors. The high energy, fast pace, focus on risk-taking, and inclusive community contribute to making Stanford Medicine X the most-discussed academic healthcare conference in the world. MEDICINE X | ED Inaugurated in 2015, Medicine X | ED focuses on the future of medical education by highlighting the unique learning styles of the millennial learner. Designed for all stakeholders in medical education, including health care students, patients, educators, administrators, Deans, and program directors. UME and GME stakeholders, this intensive, two-day experience examines the role technology and networked intelligence might play in driving educational innovation, the new challenges facing healthcare education in the 21st century, and examines the need to change the culture of medical education to be more patient-centered, participatory, and patient-safety-focused. GLOBAL POP-UP EVENTS Pop-up events at locations worldwide leverage the Stanford Medicine X brand to bring together diverse groups of stakeholders to discuss how emerging technologies will advance the practice of medicine, with their own local flair. Experts from host communities guide discussions among participants to share perspectives and ideas, and perhaps even to join together on new projects. Pop-up events have been held in Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco; and many more are planned. 28
