Robert P. George on the subject of “Authority and Legal<br />

Obligation.” There, he participated in the Program in<br />

Law and Public Affairs and the Penn-Princeton Bioethics<br />

Forum. He was also affiliated with the James Madison<br />

Program in American Ideals and Institutions and served<br />

as coordinator of its Undergraduate Fellows Forum.<br />

Dr. Mark works with the Tikvah Fund in New<br />

York and the Hertog Foundation in Washington, DC,<br />

and he has taught at the Straus Center for Torah and<br />

Western Thought at Yeshiva University. Daniel speaks<br />

frequently for a wide variety of groups, including the<br />

Acton Institute, the US Military Academy (West Point),<br />

the American Enterprise Institute, the Becket Fund for<br />

Religious Liberty, and Chabad. In September, Daniel<br />

spoke at the World Meeting of Families, a triennial<br />

event organized by the Catholic Church, which drew<br />

20,000 participants to Philadelphia. Other recent<br />

appearances have included speeches at Ave Maria<br />

University, Brigham Young University, Colorado Christian<br />

University, the University of Notre Dame, and<br />

the Mount Academy, the Bruderhof (Anabaptist) high<br />

school in upstate New York.<br />

Before graduate school, Dr. Mark spent four years as<br />

a high school teacher in New York City, and he received<br />

the New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner’s<br />

Distinguished Teacher Candidate Award while<br />

earning his teaching certification.<br />

Dr. Mark was appointed to the Commission on May<br />

9, 2014 by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH).<br />

Rev. Thomas J. Reese, S.J., Commissioner<br />

Rev. Thomas J. Reese, S.J. is a Senior Analyst for the<br />

National Catholic Reporter, a position he has held since<br />

2014. Previously, he was a Senior Fellow at the Woodstock<br />

Theological Center from 2006 to 2013 and from 1988 to<br />

1998. He joined the Center as a Visiting Fellow in 1985.<br />

He was Editor-in-Chief of America magazine from 1998<br />

to 2005 and an associate editor from 1978 to 1985. As an<br />

associate editor, he covered politics, economics, and the<br />

Catholic Church. Rev. Reese entered the Jesuits in 1962<br />

and was ordained in 1974. He received a B.A. and an M.A.<br />

from St. Louis University, an M.Div. from the Jesuit School<br />

of Theology at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Political Science<br />

from the University of California, Berkeley.<br />

Rev. Reese was appointed to the Commission on<br />

May 14, 2014 by President Obama.<br />

Hon. Hannah Rosenthal, Commissioner<br />

Hannah Rosenthal is the CEO and president of the<br />

Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Prior to joining the Milwaukee<br />

Jewish Federation, Hannah served as: Special<br />

Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, U.S. State<br />

Department; Executive Director, Chicago Foundation<br />

for Women (CFW); Executive Director, Jewish Council<br />

for Public Affairs (JCPA); and Executive Director, Wisconsin<br />

Women’s Council.<br />

In these positions, Rosenthal has demonstrated an<br />

ability to build relationships within and between communities,<br />

creating unique connections with local, national,<br />

and international influencers. She has been honored for<br />

her achievements throughout her career, with distinctions<br />

including: the National Council for Jewish Women Building<br />

Bridges Award (2013); Pearls for Teen Girls, Women<br />

Inspired to Lead (2013); RUMI Forum Peace and Dialogue<br />

Award for extraordinary contributions (2012); National<br />

Council for Jewish Women Faith and Humanity Award<br />

for advancing human rights and advocacy (2011); 2010 –<br />

Forward Fifty’s Top 5, national Jewish weekly’s list of the<br />

world’s most influential Jews (2010); Haiti Holocaust Committee<br />

award for advocacy for historical memory (2010);<br />

and Women to Watch, Jewish Women International’s list<br />

of outstanding leaders (2005). Hannah has also received<br />

the Wisconsin State Civil Rights Award and the Wisconsin<br />

Community Action Advocacy Award.<br />

Rosenthal currently represents the at-large community<br />

on the United States National Commission for<br />

the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural<br />

Organization (UNESCO), and on the Committee on<br />

Holocaust Denial and State-Sponsored Anti-Semitism of<br />

the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.<br />

As an agent for change, Rosenthal was responsible<br />

for a significant new approach to combating anti-Semitism<br />

in her most recent position with the State Department,<br />

and successfully led CFW through its transition<br />

into an advocacy organization. She is leading the reorganization<br />

of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation following<br />

the agency’s strategic reimagining process.<br />

Rosenthal is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison<br />

and studied for the rabbinate in Jerusalem<br />

and California. She has long been active in public policy<br />

in Wisconsin, serving in support roles to a Wisconsin<br />

State Representative and a Wisconsin Member of<br />

Congress, as well as heading a Wisconsin state agency<br />
