CRIME PREVENTION
The Crime Prevention Unit w orks w ith
the residents in the community through the
Neighborhood Watch program and has
continued to take an active role in the
neighborhood problem solving process.
Through the Neighborhood Watch program,
partnerships are formed, and together w e look
for long-term solutions to crime problems. To
accomplish this, the unit has acted as an
advisory and liaison w ith neighbors, local
businesses and other city departments. This
past year the Woodland Police Department
established a presence on Nextdoor.com, a
virtual Neighborhood Watch. This free and
community. At the end of 2015, there w ere
over 2300 members on Nextdoor w ith
claimed households of 2057 w hich
represents 9% of the population in our city. It
is our goal to increase the number of
households participating in Nextdoor. Our
Crime Prevention Unit meets regularly w ith
Nextdoor leads (similar to Neighborhood
Watch captains) to share safety issues, lend
support, and answ er questions.

the opportunity to share valuable information
about public safety issues, safety tips, and
events and services that are available to the
National Night Out is the annual
premiere event organized by the Crime
Prevention Unit. National Night Out is
designed to call attention to the importance of
partnerships betw een police and the
community. This event has proven to be a
great opportunity for the residents of
Woodland and the police officers to build trust
and long lasting bonds. The event is alw ays
held on the first Tuesday of August from 6:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
