DO YOU LOVE YOUR M ELON? The Newest Campus Trend is Here I f you haven?t heard already, the clothing brand ?Love Your Melon? has recently taken over college campuses since its founding in 2012 by two college students, Brian Keller and Zachary Quinn. This brand specializes in beanies and baseball caps, but also produces a variety of stylish shirts and accessories. Love Your Melon isn?t any ordinary clothing brand; what sets this brand apart from any other is that it was founded under the principle that for every hat sold, one would be donated to a child battling cancer. This concept has since evolved, as Love Your Melon sold enough hats for every child with cancer in the U.S. Now 50% of proceeds go towards cancer charities, the Pinky Swear Foundation and CureSearch. The brand is run by groups of college students who are split into ?Campus Crews?, groups of students on college campuses who actively spread Love Your Melon?s positive mission. Already, there are over 11,000 students involved in campus crews. Adding to this number is the recently established Muhlenberg College Campus Crew. Crew Captain, Sophomore Carly Press, decided to bring a crew onto campus because of Love Your Melon?s amazing mission and the lack of funding for pediatric cancer research. ?Thousands of children undergo rigorous treatments with drugs that were designed for adults [and] end up dealing with the aftermath,? Press says. As of now, the apparel is sold online, but when checking out, customers can support their college?s crew. When a crew sells a certain number of products, members dress as superheroes to deliver a beanie to a local child with cancer. The crew then plans a variety of activities to bring the child some fun By Rachel Solonsky and smiles. The more support that these crews get, the more children that get to experience these superhero days. ?If I can bring joy to these little warriors and their families during their time of need, it is a good day,? says Press. Out of Love Your Melon?s selection, the most popular items are the knitted beanies. The beanies are available in a variety of colors and styles, from grey to pink, cuffed and non-cuffed, to topped with a pompom. The pompom beanies have removable pompoms that can be swapped for other colors. The beanies go perfectly with a casual and comfy cold weather outfit, or can be paired with your everyday outfit in the fall or spring, adding a little personality and a pop of color. Press mentions, "These hats are of high quality, but Love Your Melon's mission is even better."
