21. MANNE DORA<br />

Manne Doras inhabit the <strong>tribal</strong> <strong>areas</strong> <strong>of</strong> Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam <strong>and</strong> East<br />

Godavari districts <strong>of</strong> Andhra Pradesh. Their populati<strong>on</strong> according to 1991 Census is 21,309.<br />

The total literacy rate am<strong>on</strong>g Mannedora is 19.02.<br />

The social organizati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> Manne Doras is based <strong>on</strong> exogamous, patrilineal descent<br />

group called Kulam in Paderu <strong>areas</strong>, Bamso in Araku <strong>and</strong> Kilagada <strong>areas</strong> <strong>and</strong> gotram in other<br />

<strong>areas</strong>. The major Kulams are 1) Killo, 2) Matya, 3) Gollari or Hanuman, 4) Rambi, 5) Pangi,<br />

6) Korra <strong>and</strong> 7) Naga. Though Kulam is exogamous, all the clans do not st<strong>and</strong> in<br />

marriageable relati<strong>on</strong>ship. Some <strong>of</strong> the Clans are c<strong>on</strong>sidered to be brother clans. Nestam or<br />

Goth B<strong>and</strong> Bar, the traditi<strong>on</strong>al b<strong>on</strong>d friendship is in vogue am<strong>on</strong>g Manne Doras.<br />

Though marriages by capture, by service <strong>and</strong> by elopement are also socially accepted<br />

modes <strong>of</strong> acquiring mates, marriage by negotiati<strong>on</strong>s is the most comm<strong>on</strong> mode <strong>of</strong> all.<br />

Levirate <strong>and</strong> sororate are in practice. The c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> beef <strong>and</strong> pork is not traditi<strong>on</strong>ally<br />

forbidden.<br />

They mostly speak Telugu. But those who are living al<strong>on</strong>g the border <strong>of</strong> Orissa speak<br />

They worship Jakara Devatha, Ganga Devudu, Sanku Devatha etc., <strong>and</strong> main festivals<br />

Manne Doras have their own traditi<strong>on</strong>al council called “Kula Panchayat” which<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sists <strong>of</strong> headman (Kula Pedda) <strong>and</strong> a few members.<br />

22. MUKHA DORA<br />

Mukha Doras are found in the <strong>tribal</strong> <strong>areas</strong> <strong>of</strong> Visakhaptnam, Srikakulam <strong>and</strong> East<br />

Godavari districts. They are also known a “Nooka Dora”, ‘Racha Reddy’, ‘Muka Raja’ <strong>and</strong><br />

‘Sabarlu’. Their populati<strong>on</strong> according to 1991 census is 29,680. The total literacy rate<br />

am<strong>on</strong>g Mukha Dora is 9.86.
