Mandu was known as Mandavgad and Shadiabad originally. It is located in Malwa region of
western Madhya Pradesh, at 35 kilometer distance from Dhar city, it would be for you to reach
Mandu from Indore which is about 100 Kilometer away from the place, and you can reach the
destination by a bus from Indore to Dhar city. It’s located at an elevation of 633 meters on Vindhya
plateau. The separation of this plateau stretches about five miles east to west, and almost four miles
north and Narmada River to south.
It has history around the 10th and 11th century. It has
some most majestic monuments built in the reign of
several kings, as Parmars, Allau – din – khilji, Bahadur
Shah of Gujarat, Sher Shah Suri, Mughal Emperor
Humayu, and Baaz Bahadur.There are several
amazing forts and amusement places, which is so
fascinating and great example of human art and craft
of history.Before Mughal, enters the Mandav – fort
was known as one of the great forts in the country.
One has to cross many doors during the way inside,
like – Alamgir, Bhangi darwaza, Dehli Darwaza,
Kabaani Darwaza. Back of Mandu there are two main
doors as Songarh Darwaza and Tarapur Darwaza.

The Jahaz Mahal was built by the Sultan Ghiyas – UD – Din Khilji, between two artificial lakes; it is a
two storied building architecture, served as harem, which houses a number of women. It is named so
because it looks like a ship floating in the water.

The Hindola Mahal is a large meeting hall, which means a swinging palace; the name reflects its
sloppy walls. It might have been built during the reign of Hoshang Shah about 1425 C.E. it is one of the
set of royal palace complex in the town, which consists of Jahaz Mahal, the Hindola Mahal, the Tawili
Mahal, and the Nahar Jharokha.

India’s first marble tomb structure was Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, which is beautifully carved with
intricate marble lattice work. The mausoleum is about 100 ft tall and 100 ft broad and topped over
6.50 ft terrace. It is an Afghan style architecture monument.
