KASA means “talk” in the native Ghanaian language Twi. We chose<br />
this name because we believe your shoes say SO MUCH about who<br />
you are. Hence our tagline “let your feet do the talking.” We designed<br />
our shoes to be simple pieces that tell a story.<br />
You deserve shoes that tell your story and broadcast your values<br />
without having to say a word.<br />
Since we live in an increasingly connected world, it was important for<br />
us to include our Ghanaian roots in each of our designs. Our shoes<br />
combine the energy of urban West Africa with classic, western designs<br />
to create shoes that are unique, vibrant, and comfortable.<br />
Our signature stain glass print pattern and traditional Ghanaian<br />
{Millefiori Bead} details, further the conversation between cultural<br />
aesthetics. We use only the highest quality materials, and insane<br />
attention to detail because we want you to have a fashion piece that<br />
not only brings you joy but miles of adventure.<br />

Beads<br />
Millefiori is actually a combination of the<br />
Italian words “mille” (thousand) and “fiori”<br />
(flowers) which basically means “a thousand<br />
flowers”. These beautiful beads are known<br />
for their intricate floral patterns and vibrant<br />
colors.<br />
Another name for them are “African Trade<br />
Beads”. In the booming trade period between<br />
the 1700s and early 1900s, these beads were<br />
bartered in West Africa for the most precious<br />
African resources: gold, ivory, and palm oil.<br />
Slaves were also traded using these beads.<br />
Later, Millefori became a symbol for<br />
something else entirely: peace and love.<br />
In the late 1960s and early 70s, Millefiori<br />
beads became prevalent with “hippies” as<br />
collectible items. Dubbed “Love beads”<br />
they were fashioned into colorful necklaces<br />
adorned with peace symbols. Due to<br />
Millefiori’s pricey nature, you will often see<br />
fake versions made from clay and plastic in<br />
stores pancaked with patchouli.<br />
While designing our signature loafer, we<br />
wanted to keep the design minimalistic but still<br />
add unique touches that tie in our African roots.<br />
The Millefiori bead was the perfect addition<br />
both for its cultural significance and its size,<br />
which made it the perfect replacement for the<br />
classic loafer tassel.<br />
All our shoe designs include hints of our<br />
patented mosaic fabric which was inspired<br />
by this unique bead. Our shoes represent our<br />
heritage and tell the story of our great country.
The Story Behind<br />
KASA literally means “talk” in the native Ghanaian<br />
language Twi.<br />

Fashion should speak to who you are as a person. It’s an<br />
exterior representation of your story, values and spirit.<br />
Which is great because people often form their opinion of<br />
others within seven seconds. Yep, they’ve done studies.<br />
You can barely say your name in seven seconds let alone<br />
share some intimate details on what makes you tick. But<br />
don’t let science hold you back from making a positive<br />
impression on someone.<br />
At KASA we like to say “let your feet do the talking.”<br />
Letting your fashion communicate something more about<br />
what you believe in and what you think.<br />
Tell the world you’re an adventure loving, globetrotting,<br />
diversity encouraging, fashion forwarding rebel soul and<br />
still have 6 seconds to spare!<br />
We also want our shoes to speak for Ghana. People in<br />
the west know very little about our home country outside<br />
of negative headlines. That isn’t how we view Ghana,<br />
because our home is so much more than one or two<br />
stories. We want to spread the TRUE story of Ghana.<br />
A story of a great country, a democratic nation, a peaceful<br />
nation, and the first nation on the African continent to gain<br />
independence from Britain.<br />
Ghana is a country with rich traditions and a thriving<br />
cultural heritage. We want to protect that heritage and<br />
share it with more of the world through our work and<br />
our shoes.<br />

MISSION<br />
For EVERY pair of KASA Shoes sold we’ll donate 20% of<br />
the proceeds to the Foundation for Special Surgery (FSS) to<br />
help aid in eradicating the burden of surgical diseases in Africa<br />
through medical missions, compassionate patient care, research<br />
and sharing of sub-specialized expertise.<br />
KASA Shoes is dedicated to supporting Sub-Saharan Africa in the<br />
areas of Education and Healthcare. Education because KASA<br />
Shoes believes when a nation is educated, its people become<br />
productive to drive self-sufficiency and consequently economic<br />
growth. Healthcare because Africa has the highest ratio of<br />
surgical disability in the world but the lowest capacity to<br />
provide surgical care.<br />
