Subud Santiago/Providencia Hosts the WSC
Clemente Tello
Chair Subud Providencia, Chile.
The World Subud Council (WSC) has been established to carry out the
resolutions of one congress until the next, and includes representatives
of the zones, wings and affiliates, the IH’s and the WSA team.
L
ast year, on a typical
Saturday, we were
sitting in the garden
of our Subud house in
Providencia, (Santiago)
Chile. We didn’t have
much on our minds, when Zone 9
Representative Mauricio Castillo told us
about the possibility of hosting the next
World Subud Council (WSC) meeting.
The first and only question that came
up was from one of our brothers was:
“Where?” Mauricio replied: “Well, right
here.”
Initially there was some skepticism.
Do we have the capacity? How could
we accommodate the WSC in our
old Subud house? Would renovations
disrupt our latihans?
A few weeks later, news from the WSA
team arrived confirming the site. “The
test has been done and Providencia will
be the host,” Mauricio said.
Of course, you cannot force anyone
to help, so we had an open invitation
to those who felt they could give their
time or donate to the project. Renato
Sotelo, then group chair, saw that only
a few members were interested. But
Eduardo Dauvin, one of our senior
brothers, showed a lot of enthusiasm
for the project. So we formed working
groups to renovate the house and clear
the back garden so that a tent could be
installed to accommodate the council.
From time to time, there were of course
some members who were not always
happy with how we were working, but
we found that with time, patience and
understanding we eventually found
harmony.
