COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Above: James Gonzales at the Great Southern Grammar rideathon in March that raised over $1500 for AFWA, in
memory of his childhood best mate Bill, whose family and friends rode in the 2016 ECU Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma.
James/Bill’s Bikers
James lost his best mate Bill to asthma
and doesn’t want that to happen to
anyone else. As Captain of Boarding
at Great Southern Grammar in
Albany, James couldn’t come up for
the ECU Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma but still wanted
to do something. So instead he organised an all-night
Ride-A-Thon at his school. “Bill was only 9 years old
when he passed away and he was my closest friend.
Please help me in donating to AFWA and help people
like Bill breathe and don’t have to go through the
heartache that his family went through,” James said.
10 student teams took part in the overnight ride-a-thon
from 5pm straight through until 8am the next morning.
Kids dressed in costume, rode for at least 3 hours each
in shifts, enjoyed an outdoor cinema, and camped
overnight on the school’s grounds. Altogether they
rode 4500km with James himself riding over 280km.
The Ride-A-Thon was a fabulous event and raised over
$1,500 for the Asthma Foundation WA. Well done
James and everyone at Great Southern Grammar!
FLOREAT
The Asthma Foundation WA extends it’s appreciation to Coles,
Floreat for their generous support in supplying the hot dogs for
AFWA’s fundraising sausage sizzle at the 2016 Western Force Fan
Day. Coles Floreat’s Store Manager, Mr Matt Alcock, kindly provided
all the sausages, buns, sauces and diced onions for the event. We
really appreciate his and Coles’ support!
DID YOU MISS OUT
ON THE BIKE HIKE?
Did you miss out on the Bike Hike but still want to help
the cause?
You can fundraise all year round! There are plenty of challenge events—like Run for a Reason, the Rottnest
Channel Swim, or City to Surf, just to name a few—or you can create your own event. Anything fun can be a
great way to raise awareness and donations for asthma, like a free dress day at school or hosting a theme party.
