The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme<br />
Republic of Poland. This exhibit laid out the captivating background<br />
of Polish diplomat Jan Kozielewski, who under the assumed name of<br />
Jan Karski served as a courier for the Polish Underground Resistance<br />
and informed Allied leaders about Nazi Germany’s ongoing murder<br />
of the Jews in Europe. Jan Karski was a Roman Catholic who later<br />
attained citizenship of the United States and was named an honorary<br />
citizen of Israel and a Righteous among the Nations. A second<br />
exhibit, produced by the Holocaust Programme’s partner The Jewish<br />
Foundation for the Righteous provided an overview of the people who<br />
bravely risked their lives to save Jewish people during the Holocaust.<br />
Holocaust Educational Materials<br />
The Holocaust Programme has developed<br />
a wide variety of educational tools in partnership<br />
with leading institutions in Holocaust<br />
and genocide education. In 2015, the<br />
Programme, in cooperation with the News<br />
and Media Division, produced The Holocaust<br />
and the United Nations 10th Anniversary Film<br />

been implementing its mandate for Holocaust<br />
education and remembrance to help prevent genocide over<br />
the past decade. The film includes a special message from United<br />
Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and footage from the many<br />
Holocaust memorial ceremonies, panel discussions and educational<br />
events that have been held at New York Headquarters, as well as in<br />
the field in cooperation with the global network of United Nations<br />
Information Centres. The film, which was recorded in all United<br />
Nations official languages by United Nations staff members, also<br />
outlines the various educational products that the Programme has<br />
produced.<br />
