purchase land
The new Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has withdrawn
City Hall’s objection to LCY purchasing land in the
Royal Docks from the Greater London Authority.
Flexjet’s Embraer Legacy 500
Approximately 1 in 8 people (13%) in the
UK have had an item confiscated at airport
security according to a recent YouGov survey
commissioned by London City Airport.
We took a look at the most common and
the weird and wonderful items confiscated
from hand luggage at security.
Making it to the top of the list of most common
items were snow globes that are confiscated
due to their liquid content, closely followed
by both Harrods and Fortnum and Mason
jams and spreads. While among the most
unusual were Horselyx horse treats, Waitrose
pickled gherkins and £40,000 in cash!
The media picked up some of the unusual
discoveries which were shared on ITV London
News, City AM, Mail Online, Express.
co.uk, Standard.co.uk, The Londonist,
Westminster & Pimlico News and Kensington
& Chelsea News, just to mention a few.
This is great news
and a step in the right
direction for our
expansion plan CADP,
as we need to acquire
the land to be able to
build the new stands
and terminal extension.
However, the plans
are still subject to
planning permission
being granted. A
public inquiry into
our expansion plans
was completed in
April and the final
decision now sits with
the Government. We
hope for a positive
decision later this year.
On 19th May, Flexjet’s Embraer Legacy 500 had its first landing on LCY ground and was welcomed at
the Jet Centre with a traditional water cannon salute from our fire engines. One of the most advanced
private planes in the world, the spectacular mid-sized jet is the fastest in its category and allows for
non-stop travel to and from the US East Coast and points through Europe, The Middle East and Africa.

Dixons Travel
We welcome another exciting newbie who are
bringing a techy touch to the terminal, Dixons
Travel. Bringing us the biggest brands and
latest gadgets, they’re the perfect addition
for both business and leisure passengers.
The store, that opened at the end of May,
features a range of products, including
premium headphones, Apple products,
tablets and more at internet beating prices.
If you find a better price against their listed
competitors (John Lewis, Amazon and Argos)
for applicable products, they’ll discount
double the difference (third party sellers
excluded). Ask in store for more details.
Dixons Travel also offer a handy “reserve
before you fly” service which allows
passengers to reserve products before they
arrive, ready for pick up in the terminal.
Liquids are one of the biggest hold ups in security.
The new, attention-grabbing prep benches don’t
just bring a fresh and modern feel to the balcony,
they will help to streamline the security process
by prompting customers to sort their liquids
and sharps before continuing on to security.
Replacing the smaller white benches, the
unmissable black prep benches feature
examples of liquids larger than 100ml that
are not permitted in hand luggage as well as
those that are. All passengers must put liquids
in to clear plastic bags and throw away any
sharps or liquids larger than the allowance.

Perfect for sugar lovers and the sweet-toothed,

the terminal and opened in late May. The pop-up
style shop that sits in the glass box opposite Aelia
Duty Free, offers some of London’s most loved
cupcakes, cakes and brownies, giving passengers
a taste of handcrafted heaven before their flight.

dietary requirements, they offer wheat free,
sugar free and vegan products. Celebrating

home and enjoy.

treasure of a discovery in his loft recently.
Covered by ITV News, The Newham Recorder,
City AM, Business Traveller and The Londonist
who branded it “The Funniest Thing You’ll See
All Week” was the nostalgic LCY promo video.
Filmed back in the pre-DLR days in circa 1993,
the promo video compares the journeys of an
‘optimistic’ man who arrives at Heathrow with just
one hour to get to his meeting in Central London
and a smart business woman who flies into LCY.
The 90s throwback also features retro scenes
of Canary Wharf and the London skyline
and is available to view on the London City
