Saskatchewan delivers high quality postsecondary<br />

education and training through<br />

a variety of institutions, including universities,<br />

technical institutes and career and<br />

regional colleges, with several focusing<br />

on First Nations and Aboriginal education.<br />

There are also several STEP members who<br />

specialize in providing education and training<br />

programs.<br />

The University of Regina (U of R), University<br />

of Saskatchewan (U of S) and Saskatchewan<br />

Polytechnic Institute all offer degrees<br />

in various program areas, with the U of R<br />

and U of S offering graduate degrees as<br />

well.<br />

As of the fall 2015 academic year, the<br />

U of R boasted 10 faculties and 25 academic<br />

schools and departments, providing<br />

over 120 undergraduate and 78 graduate<br />

programs to more than 14,000 students,<br />

including nearly 2,000 international and<br />

more than 1,600 Aboriginal students. Currently,<br />

over 400 researchers – including<br />

nine Canada Research Chairs – work at the<br />

university’s 18 research centres, making it<br />

one of the leading research institutes on<br />

the prairies.<br />

The U of S features three graduate<br />

schools, six federated and 13 interdisciplinary<br />

colleges, and it is home to some of the<br />

province’s most prestigious research centres<br />

such as Innovation Place and the Canadian<br />

Light Source, Canada’s only Synchrotron.<br />

As of September 2015, over 19,700<br />

undergraduate and graduate students – including<br />

more than 2,200 international and<br />

2,072 Aboriginal students – were enrolled<br />

in the university.<br />

In 2015, Saskatchewan Polytechnic provided<br />

over 150 hands-on training programs<br />

to more than 26,600 students. It continues<br />

to introduce and adapt programs to meet<br />

Saskatchewan’s ever-changing workplace<br />

and industry needs.<br />

The First Nations University of Canada<br />

(FNUniv) and Saskatchewan Indian Institute<br />

of Technology (SIIT) are among those dedicated<br />

to Aboriginal and First Nations education.<br />

FNUniv is a U of R federated college,<br />

offering Indigenous-focused graduate and<br />

undergraduate degrees, and SIIT provides<br />

certificate and diploma programs in areas<br />

ranging from trades and technical to business<br />

and health.<br />

There are eight regional colleges as well<br />

as several career colleges operating in the<br />

province. Over 160 vocational training programs<br />

in the fields of business, esthetics,<br />

health services, trades and more are available<br />

through the various career colleges,<br />

while the regional colleges provide trades,<br />

adult education and university level programming<br />

for residents across Saskatchewan.<br />
