2016 Outstanding PUP Alumni Honeylette Monteverde De Leon Honeylette Monteverde De Leon was born in Mauban, Quezon. She was the youngest child of Mr. & Mrs. Baldomero Monteverde, Sr. It was an ordinary day in high school that turned into an extraordinary day for her when she realized she was called to pursue a life of higher excellence. At first, she wanted to become a nurse or medical doctor but due to circumstances had to instead pursue her studies at Philippine College of Commerce (PCC) and graduated with Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Major in Marketing in 1978. She had excelled in this field and was immediately hired by Majalco Insurance and Investment Company wherein she worked at their Auto Insurance Department from 1978 to 1980. During the six months of employment, she was promoted as an Executive Secretary to the President of the company. Mid 1980, she was offered to work for Magsaysay/Maglines Shipping Agency as Administrative Assistant to the General Manager and Sales Manager handling the USA Trade Market. Honeylette migrated to New York, USA in1983 to join her mother and oldest brother. She never gave up on striving to work hard. She went to New York University to further her advance studies on the field of Marketing. She also got hired at Biddle Sawyer Corporation, a manufacturer of chemical, food ingredients and fragrance company in New York as a Sales Assistant to the Executive Vice President-Sales and Marketing. She handled the accounts of France, Japan, and South East Asia customers. Within 6 months of employment, she was promoted as a supervisor of Sales and Marketing. In 1985, she moved to California and got married to her husband, Robert Z. De Leon Jr. They have been married for more than 30 years now and had 3 children who are all grown up and excelled in their respective fields just like their mother. Presently, Noel, the eldest, studying Dentistry at UCSF. Kristine Claire is taking Ph.D. in Microbiology at Ohio State University and Robert III is pursuing a Physician Assistant at Tufts Medical University in Boston. During the years 1985 to 1988, she had worked for OCC Shipping /Dainichi Maritime, West Coast Office, an NVOCC and 3 PL Logistics Company as an Import Manager in which she had helped to develop and establish a customer base for the West Coast region. After awhile working for the said company, a branch manager position was offered to her that because of hard work, she had made the West Coast Office a profitable branch. In 1989 to 1990, she had accepted the position of Vice President for Sales & Marketing for the company, General Air & Ocean Consolidators, a Taiwanese company based at the Los Angeles airport wherein she developed a system in their Ocean Import Department that brought huge sales to the company which resulted its expansion to warehousing and distribution. In the year 1991, she founded WORLD CLASS FREIGHT INC., an NVOCC and freight forwarder company with the support of the majority of her network agents in Asia. The company was initially in a small operation that became a 3PL/Warehousing Distribution in 2008. Retail giant WALMART themselves invited her to be a part of their supply network and has been a big clientele. Since then, the company rapidly expanded and along with its agents is now located in strategic locations around the world. WORLD CLASS FREIGHT, Inc. serves major department retail stores here in the USA. It is now a very profitable company with sales up to millions of dollars. This company has partnered with the Catholic Archdiocese to facilitate the shipping of containers filled with relief goods to be donated to the victims of typhoons Undoy and Yolanda in the Philippines. Year 2009, Honeylette was awarded as an Outstanding Business Leader by the City of Long Beach Six District Council. She was also given the Business Excellence Award by Union Bank. Likewise, she was a member of the Long Beach City of Commerce / Women Business Council and the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW). She was once a panellist in the prestigious 2013 METRANS International Urban Freight Conference.
