<strong>2016</strong> Outstanding <strong>PUP</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong><br />

Honeylette Monteverde De Leon<br />

Honeylette Monteverde De Leon was born in Mauban,<br />

Quezon. She was the youngest child of Mr. & Mrs.<br />

Baldomero Monteverde, Sr. It was an ordinary day in high<br />

school that turned into an extraordinary day for her when she<br />

realized she was called to pursue a life of higher excellence.<br />

At first, she wanted to become a nurse or medical doctor but<br />

due to circumstances had to instead pursue her studies at<br />

Philippine College of Commerce (<strong>PCC</strong>) and graduated with<br />

Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Major in Marketing in<br />

1978. She had excelled in this field and was immediately<br />

hired by Majalco Insurance and Investment Company<br />

wherein she worked at their Auto Insurance Department from<br />

1978 to 1980. During the six months of employment, she was<br />

promoted as an Executive Secretary to the President of the<br />

company.<br />

Mid 1980, she was offered to work for Magsaysay/Maglines<br />

Shipping Agency as Administrative Assistant to the General<br />

Manager and Sales Manager handling the <strong>USA</strong> Trade<br />

Market.<br />

Honeylette migrated to New York, <strong>USA</strong> in1983 to join her<br />

mother and oldest brother. She never gave up on striving to<br />

work hard. She went to New York University to further her<br />

advance studies on the field of Marketing. She also got hired<br />

at Biddle Sawyer Corporation, a manufacturer of chemical,<br />

food ingredients and fragrance company in New York as a<br />

Sales Assistant to the Executive Vice President-Sales and<br />

Marketing. She handled the accounts of France, Japan, and<br />

South East Asia customers. Within 6 months of employment,<br />

she was promoted as a supervisor of Sales and Marketing.<br />

In 1985, she moved to California and got married to her<br />

husband, Robert Z. De Leon Jr. They have been married for<br />

more than 30 years now and had 3 children who are all<br />

grown up and excelled in their respective fields just like their<br />

mother. Presently, Noel, the eldest, studying Dentistry at<br />

UCSF. Kristine Claire is taking Ph.D. in Microbiology at<br />

Ohio State University and Robert III is pursuing a Physician<br />

Assistant at Tufts Medical University in Boston.<br />

During the years 1985 to 1988, she had worked for OCC<br />

Shipping /Dainichi Maritime, West Coast Office, an NVOCC<br />

and 3 PL Logistics Company as an Import Manager in which<br />

she had helped to develop and establish a customer base for<br />

the West Coast region. After awhile working for the said<br />

company, a branch manager position was offered to her that<br />

because of hard work, she had made the West Coast Office a<br />

profitable branch.<br />

In 1989 to 1990, she had accepted the position of Vice<br />

President for Sales & Marketing for the company, General<br />

Air & Ocean Consolidators, a Taiwanese company based at<br />

the Los Angeles airport wherein she developed a system in<br />

their Ocean Import Department that brought huge sales to the<br />

company which resulted its expansion to warehousing and<br />

distribution.<br />

In the year 1991, she founded WORLD CLASS FREIGHT<br />

INC., an NVOCC and freight forwarder company with the<br />

support of the majority of her network agents in Asia. The<br />

company was initially in a small operation that became a<br />

3PL/Warehousing Distribution in 2008. Retail giant<br />

WALMART themselves invited her to be a part of their<br />

supply network and has been a big clientele. Since then, the<br />

company rapidly expanded and along with its agents is now<br />

located in strategic locations around the world. WORLD<br />

CLASS FREIGHT, Inc. serves major department retail stores<br />

here in the <strong>USA</strong>. It is now a very profitable company with<br />

sales up to millions of dollars. This company has partnered<br />

with the Catholic Archdiocese to facilitate the shipping of<br />

containers filled with relief goods to be donated to the<br />

victims of typhoons Undoy and Yolanda in the Philippines.<br />

Year 2009, Honeylette was awarded as an Outstanding<br />

Business Leader by the City of Long Beach Six District<br />

Council. She was also given the Business Excellence Award<br />

by Union Bank. Likewise, she was a member of the Long<br />

Beach City of Commerce / Women Business Council and the<br />

National Association of Professional Women (NAPW). She<br />

was once a panellist in the prestigious 2013 METRANS<br />

International Urban Freight Conference.<br />

Honeylette can now proudly say that she had achieved her<br />

dream and plan to continue in expanding her business.<br />
