<strong>2016</strong> Outstanding <strong>PUP</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong><br />
Mario Alban Santos<br />
Mario’s outstanding contribution in the area of<br />
Business and Community Service, started long<br />
ago in his <strong>PCC</strong>/<strong>PUP</strong> days, serving as Editor-in-<br />
Chief of the college paper, The Businessman,<br />
1966-67; and as President of the Supreme<br />
Student Council, 1968-69 (Mario worked for<br />
the awarding of the 11-hectare lot in Sta. Mesa<br />
that is now the <strong>PUP</strong> campus). After graduation,<br />
he was invited to serve as <strong>PCC</strong> faculty member<br />
in Advertising and Marketing. He also finished<br />
the MBA academic courses in Ateneo Graduate<br />
School of Business.<br />
He was born in Manila, eldest of 8 siblings of<br />
Atty. Felix and Maria Santos. He is married to a<br />
co-<strong>PCC</strong> student leader, the former Marylou<br />
Garlitos. They have one daughter, Martia, now<br />
a lawyer in the U.S. and is married to Michael<br />
Fox, with two loveable daughters, Catherine<br />
and Elizabeth.<br />
Mario came to the U.S. in 1978 and has served<br />
in the profession of retirement income planning<br />
and life insurance from that year up to the<br />
present. The courses he finished in the U.S.--<br />
Chartered Life Underwriter, Retirement Income<br />
Certified Professional, with the American<br />
College of Financial Services and the Life<br />
Underwriting Council Fellow--ensure a high<br />
quality of education, skill and service to clients<br />
in California, Illinois, and other states. As a life<br />
insurance marketing broker, Mario has trained<br />
and developed hundreds of agents.<br />
Mario helps people in planning a safe and<br />
regular retirement income, and protecting their<br />
family and wealth, using guaranteed insurance<br />
products with A-rated carriers. Mario has been<br />
recognized by the insurance industry with<br />
numerous awards, with production and quality<br />
awards; and also was the recipient of the<br />
“Filipino American Executive of the Year”<br />
award. He is a lifetime member of the Million<br />
Dollar Round Table. He is also currently the<br />
president of the Silicon Valley Society of<br />
Financial Services Professionals. He coauthored<br />
a finance book “How You Can Profit<br />
from Annuities.” He also was the editor of the<br />
award-winning life underwriter NAIFA<br />
Peninsula bulletin in California.<br />
Mario has been serving the community for<br />
many years, as president of various associations<br />
such as Filipino Professionals and<br />
Businessmen’s Association (1998-99, 2012-13);<br />
Toastmasters International public speaking<br />
clubs; and Lay Director of the San Francisco<br />
Filipino Cursillo. He also served as a Human<br />
Relations Commissioner of San Mateo County,<br />
CA, 1991-95. He co-chaired the very<br />
successful Conference on Philippine<br />
Entrepreneurship in 2012. Mario is a recipient<br />
of the Outstanding <strong>Alumni</strong> award for marketing<br />
and life insurance in <strong>PUP</strong> (100th year<br />
anniversary, 2004); and the Outstanding<br />
<strong>Alumni</strong>, Falcon Award, of V. Mapa High<br />
(2014). Mario thanks the Lord God for<br />
allowing him to love and serve through the<br />
years.<br />
