2016 Outstanding PUP Alumni Mario Alban Santos Mario’s outstanding contribution in the area of Business and Community Service, started long ago in his PCC/PUP days, serving as Editor-in- Chief of the college paper, The Businessman, 1966-67; and as President of the Supreme Student Council, 1968-69 (Mario worked for the awarding of the 11-hectare lot in Sta. Mesa that is now the PUP campus). After graduation, he was invited to serve as PCC faculty member in Advertising and Marketing. He also finished the MBA academic courses in Ateneo Graduate School of Business. He was born in Manila, eldest of 8 siblings of Atty. Felix and Maria Santos. He is married to a co-PCC student leader, the former Marylou Garlitos. They have one daughter, Martia, now a lawyer in the U.S. and is married to Michael Fox, with two loveable daughters, Catherine and Elizabeth. Mario came to the U.S. in 1978 and has served in the profession of retirement income planning and life insurance from that year up to the present. The courses he finished in the U.S.-- Chartered Life Underwriter, Retirement Income Certified Professional, with the American College of Financial Services and the Life Underwriting Council Fellow--ensure a high quality of education, skill and service to clients in California, Illinois, and other states. As a life insurance marketing broker, Mario has trained and developed hundreds of agents. Mario helps people in planning a safe and regular retirement income, and protecting their family and wealth, using guaranteed insurance products with A-rated carriers. Mario has been recognized by the insurance industry with numerous awards, with production and quality awards; and also was the recipient of the “Filipino American Executive of the Year” award. He is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He is also currently the president of the Silicon Valley Society of Financial Services Professionals. He coauthored a finance book “How You Can Profit from Annuities.” He also was the editor of the award-winning life underwriter NAIFA Peninsula bulletin in California. Mario has been serving the community for many years, as president of various associations such as Filipino Professionals and Businessmen’s Association (1998-99, 2012-13); Toastmasters International public speaking clubs; and Lay Director of the San Francisco Filipino Cursillo. He also served as a Human Relations Commissioner of San Mateo County, CA, 1991-95. He co-chaired the very successful Conference on Philippine Entrepreneurship in 2012. Mario is a recipient of the Outstanding Alumni award for marketing and life insurance in PUP (100th year anniversary, 2004); and the Outstanding Alumni, Falcon Award, of V. Mapa High (2014).
