Describe your genre of music?
I consider my music inspirational? I
prefer that my music not be limited to
one specific category. My music delivers
a positive message; I consider it ?Feel
Good Music?. I want to bring back the
music from the 90s because it?s
nostalgic, compelling people to reflect
on good memories.
How did you get your start in the music
industry?
I started writing hooks, and recording
demos that I sang to different industry
people. Then, at 17 years old I joined a
girl group whose name changed a few
times until the name Spanish Fly was
eventually agreed upon. We released
singles such as ?Dymez Need Love?, and
were signed by Kedar Massenberg to
Virgin Records. We then landed VH1
deal for the ?Save the Music?
soundtrack, working with such artists as
Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and The Roots.
But, dissension among the group
members was so discouraging, so I
decided to pursue a solo career. Later, I
moved to North Carolina with my
family, and started doing local shows
and opened for major artists such as
Melba Moore.
Was there any particular moment in
your career where you felt like you
"made it"?
When a fan approached me after a
show and told me that my music
changed her life. She was
contemplating suicide but was uplifted.
If one person could be changed by
my music that is when I felt like I
made it, and that it is all worth it.

Describe how you experienced
personal tragedy involving the loss of
your husband. How were you able to
move forward in life?
My husband was tragically killed in an
accident on his first day at work. But I
wanted to turn that into positivity and
started writing ?feel good music?. I
didn?t want my music to reflect
adversity. I wanted people to feel
inspired and uplifted when they hear
my music.
What is the meaning behind the song
"Press Rewind"?
My song ?Live my life? is a follow up to
?Press Rewind?. I got into an argument
with my husband shortly before his
death. Afterwards, I sent him a text
that I loved him. But I got no
response. I received a phone call that
he was in a terrible accident at work. I
will never know if he received my text.
From then, I regretted not making up
with him before he died. ?Press
Rewind? reflects how I wish I could
turn back the hands of time. Life is
too short, and we are not promised
tomorrow? make sure you tell your
family you love them because you
never know when the last time you
would see them.
Wow, Although we can not press
rewind ,we can always move
forward and help others! Currently,
are you working on any projects?
I am working on a few things! I am
working on my album, titled ?Jessie
Storey?. On this album, I am
addressing different aspects of my
life, along with positive messages. I
also have a charity, called the Jessie
Storey SOS Foundation
(www.jessiesstoreysosfoundation.com) for
children experiencing tragedy and
providing them with resources; I
have even helped people directly
out of my own pocket. Additionally,
I have launched another
organization, called Music Restores
Lives? which encompasses
organizing festivals to raise funds
for those needing medical
assistance and essentially restoring
lives.
The inspiration,and strength of
Jessie truly makes everyday a gift,
and everyone around us a blessing.
