Chaplain's Corner SOG's. Standard Operating Guidelines. Usually, when I hear this term the response is ugh. They are issued to us by the Lt's or Battalions to keep everyone on the same page. They're supposed to guide behaviors so that in whatever situation is being covered, no one get's hurt. The guidelines sometimes seem restricting or limiting and we don't like to be restricted by others. The officers want all behaviors to be similar and predictable because they want us to be safe. I sometimes hear people talk about the Bible in the same way as SOG's. They think it is restricting and limiting. They don't like that it talks about the behaviors that we shouldn't do. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word (the Bible) is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." The Bible has been given to us by God to show us the way and to be the light that illuminates the things that we should pay attention to. What Does the Word Say? by Dwayne Clemmons This month’s theme is a discussion of finishing the mission. Let’s ask, “What Does the Word Say?”’2 Timothy 4:1-8 says, “1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” I see five characteristics of “finishing the mission” in this text. First, in order to “finish the mission” you must be first cognizant that God has entrusted His ministry to you. Whether its salvage and overhaul, where you return the residence back to the best possible condition, or participating in a mission trip overseas, or even fulfilling your assignment each week in your local church, it’s not about you, it’s all about Him. of the righteous, but God delivers us out of them all. He also says that in this world you will have tribulation but we fear not the world because He has overcome the world and put all things under His feet. In order to finish the mission, you must keep the finish line in view. You have to maintain faithfulness to the gospel of God’s grace. You must study to show yourself approved, a workman unashamed of rightly dividing the Word of truth. We must focus on His assignment and endeavor to be as productive as possible. The most important thing to focus on in keeping the eye on the prize. Just as we study training manuals to develop our skills, we must learn the principles and precepts of the Kingdom of God. Effectively completing a training evolution enhances our confidence and ability. Boldness will come, fear subsides, and your skills improve because you perform exactly the you train. Finally, to finish the mission, you must feed on and proclaim the whole purpose of God. Walking in the Spirit will enable you not to fulfill the lust of the flesh. You must be obedient to the leading of the Spirit. You will experience nothing finer than the realization that you have given your all, you left it all on the field of battle, and the mission is complete. Until the next time, “Be Blessed and Let the Spirit Reign!” You have been called for such a time as this to be God’s hands, feet, and mouth on this Earth. He would not call you to the work unless He knew you could accomplish it with His assistance. He has equipped you with all of the tools you need. Next, you must realize His assignment is not request, it is a command. He says in His Word that the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. He is not sorry for your assignment and He did not make any mistakes in calling you. You are a peculiar people and must grasp the enormity of what you are to do. Next, you must submit your entire life to the mission and be prepared for the trouble you will experience as you follow Him.
