Mission Accomplished by Frank Schaper - FCFInternational Outreach Director “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” NIV “804 to Des Pres Command. All propane tanks are now emptied. The tank farm has been secured. Situation under control.” Those were the words I was waiting to hear for a long time. After 40 days working in the field during the 1993 flood, the rain had finally stopped and the waters were receding. More importantly, a large tank farm with leaking propane tanks had been secured. An extremely dangerous situation had come to an end. “Mission accomplished.” A person does not have to live very long on this earth before he becomes acquainted w i t h t h o s e t w o w o r d s , “ M i s s i o n Accomplished.” We read them in history books and novels. We hear them in movies and television shows. We hear them during sporting activities and historical events. And we hear them on the nightly news, “The hostage situation is over. Everyone is safe. Mission accomplished.” When you successfully complete what you set out to do – that is mission accomplished. For more “Well done good and examples, we need only turn to the Bible. Think of Abraham, Noah, Moses, and David. Think of Mary and Joseph, John the Baptist, Peter and Paul. All these people, and many more, successfully completed what they set out to do. And look at Jesus hanging on the cross. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Jesus had completed on earth what the Father set out for him to do. Mission Accomplished. As Christians, God has set tasks out for us to do, also. The Bible tells us that God has plans for us. Remember - man’s chief end is to love and bring glory to God. How are you doing in this area of your life? We are to love our neighbors (fellow fire fighters) like ourselves. How do you reflect that in your firehouse? Are you a good witness for Christ on the job? And do not forget, we are to make disciples of all nations. We are commanded to share the name of Jesus with family and friends, neighbors and strangers – everyone. So there is lots to do. Our tasks are set before us by God. And one day we will be held accountable for them before God. On that day, will you hear, “Well done good and faithful servant - Mission Accomplished.” Something to think about. faithful servant - Mission Accomplished” FCFInternational/Encourager/Page 8
Encourage One Another Daily Devotions FCFInternational provides daily devotions from several different members of our ministry. Don’t forget to check out our Bible studies as well and be sure to share both with your friends Read Revelation 2:1-7 Rekindle Encouragement for the day – “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.” Revelation 2:4 NIV Most chiefs do not like to hear the word “rekindle.” By definition a rekindle is a fire that occurs in a tenable building up to eight hours after the last company leaves the scene and is determined by the investigators to be an extension of the original fire. Rekindles make your department look bad because you were not able to fully extinguish the fire and it damages more of the structure than it should have. In order to ensure that a fire won’t rekindle it is important to open up around the fire area until you reach unburned wood. We had a lieutenant years ago that would take one last look around after all the hose was repacked on the apparatus and we were ready to leave. We never had a rekindle as long as that lieutenant was working. For the Christian first responder the term “rekindle” is used in an opposite manner and is considered good not bad. As life gets so busy we sometimes forget to spend quality time with God. In the fire service we get busy with training, going to emergencies and filling out reports. For firefighters with families there are ball games, school work, and parties to attend. Before you know it there is no time left for God. In Revelation we learn that the church at Ephesus is getting judged for their lack of commitment to God. While God commends them for their labor and their commitment (2:2), they are then reminded that they have left their first love. As you evaluate your commitment to God today resolve to rekindle your love for Him. Rekindling your love for God takes time and energy that is focused on Him. Even though your life is busy, remember to carve out enough time to devote to the God who loves you more than life itself. Lord, forgive me for not spending time with You, help me today to give you the honor and respect that You deserve and teach me how to live a life that is pleasing to You.
