Police Reports
Fox’s employee who allegedly increased his own tip charged with theft
Daniel E. Laskowski, 25, of
8207 S. Nashville Ave. in Burbank,
was charged July 21 with theft after
he allegedly increased a bill by
$15 by altering the tip line on a receipt
at Fox’s Pizza, 9655 W. 143rd
St., where he worked. A customer
brought a bill to the attention of the
restaurant when it became clear the
amount had been raised, and the
employee’s transaction receipts
were reviewed, police said.
July 26
• Robert Charles Brown, 36, of
9150 W. 84th Ave. in Hickory
Hills, was charged with retail theft
and battery after he allegedly tried
to take 23 items valued at a total
of $210.27 from a home improvement
store in the 7300 block of
159th Street. He reportedly tried to
take four new packages of copper
furnace/water heater thermocouple
kits, packages of clamps, valves
and spring links from the store.
When a loss prevention agent tried
to stop him, he pushed her, got into
a 2003 Chevy Cavalier and fled the
scene, police said. The vehicle reportedly
was stopped in the 7900
block of 159th Street. Brown was
in the backseat, with a bulge in his
lower left pant leg, where he concealed
some of the items, police
said. More items reportedly were
found inside the vehicle.
July 22
• Wayne A. Hult, 35, of 15602
Orland Brook Drive, was charged
with possession of a controlled
substance after police reportedly
found a substance that field tested
positive for crack cocaine inside
2007 Buick Regal he was driving
near his residence. Hult was driving
in excess of the posted 20 mph
speed limit and not wearing a seat
belt before he was stopped while
pulling into his driveway, police
said. An officer reportedly spotted
a bag containing a yellow rock-like
substance consistent with crack cocaine
inside the pocket of the open
driver’s-side door during the stop.
Police did not provide a weight in
the report. Warnings were issued
for speeding and failure to wear a
seat belt, police added.
July 20
• Kenneth J. Childers, 18, of 9200
Wheeler Drive in Orland Park, was
charged with DUI-intoxicating
substances, possession of drug paraphernalia,
possession of alcohol
by a minor-under 21 and failure to
reduce speed to avoid an accident
after he allegedly struck a building
at 9950 Shady Lane while driving a
2008 Nissan Altima. A witness said
he stopped to talk in the roadway
for roughly one minute before he
hit the gas and struck the building,
75-100 feet off the roadway, police
said. He reportedly had an odor of
cannabis, glassy eyes with pinpoint
pupils. Two prescription bottles
were found in the center console,
police said. A metal pipe with cannabis
residue was found inside one,
police said. Field sobriety tests
were not conducted, as Childers
required hospital transport, police
said. He reportedly refused blood
and urine samples at the hospital.
A full, unopened beer was found in
the trunk, police added.
July 18
• Marchino Culbreath, 29, of
21744 Carol Ave. in Sauk Village,
was charged with leaving the scene
of an accident, failure to report an
accident, failure to reduce speed
to avoid an accident and no valid
driver’s license after he allegedly
struck another vehicle while driving
near the intersection of 159th
Street and Harlem Avenue, and
then left the scene. He was driving
westbound on 159th Street and
tried to turn right onto Harlem Avenue
when he struck the other vehicle,
police said. Both the victim
and a witness provided information,
including a description of the
vehicle and driver, as well as a possible
license plate sequence, police
said. The vehicle Culbreath was
driving was found in a rear parking
lot at 7600 W. 159th St., where a
witness saw him leave the vehicle
and walk southbound, police said.
He was stopped and identified
shortly thereafter, police added.
FROM THE HOMER HORIZON
Canning class teaches how
to properly preserve foods
Kelly Manchac is ready to
“put up” with tradition.
Manchac, of Crestwood,
was among a group of area
residents who gathered to
learn modern techniques to
the centuries-old practice of
canning during a cooking
class held Aug. 6 at Pick.
At Garden Patch Farms in
Homer Glen.
Canning or preserving,
commonly referred as “putting
up,” is the method of
packing, heating and sealing
fruit, vegetables and even
meat to preserve food for future
use.
“I’m just starting to get
into this whole canning
thing,” Manchac said. “I
watched a video on YouTube
and was able to put up a couple
batches of pickles in the
past few weeks. I’m here today
to learn how to do [canning]
the right way.”
Jen Stanley and Kerry
Smith, culinary professionals
from From Scratch Cooking
School, were on hand to
give step-by-step demonstrations
in canning — the
latest in a series of cooking
classes offered at the farm.
For Manchac, the experience
was tasty knowledge
gained.
“I love pickles so much;
you can say I have a pickle
problem,” she said. “Now
I’m ready to do it the right
way.”
Convicted felon arrested on new drugdelivery
charge at his Orland Park home
Bill Jones, Editor
A convicted
felon from
Orland Park
was arrested
again in the
early morning
of Thursday,
Aug. 11, after Grieco
Orland Park
police and the South Suburban
Emergency Response
Team executed a search
warrant on his home.
Anthony J. Grieco, 23,
of 8231 Arrowhead Lane in
Orland Park, was charged
with one count of unlawful
possession of a controlled
substance with intent to deliver,
a Class 3 felony, according
to a press release
From Aug. 11
issued the same day by the
Orland Park Police Department.
The search warrant was
served at 5 p.m. Aug. 11,
following a monthslong investigation
into the sale of
illegal narcotics by occupants
of the home, according
to the press release.
Grieco reportedly was arrested
at the same address
in July 2010, when Orland
Park police executed a
search warrant for the illegal
sale of cannabis. He later
was convicted of possession
with intent to deliver
cannabis, police said.
The press release notes
plural “occupants” being investigated
though only the
arrest of Grieco. It also does
not specify what type of
narcotics Grieco allegedly
possessed inside the home,
nor a quantity for those alleged
drugs.
When contacted for further
information, Orland
Park Police Cmdr. John
Keating simply stated via
email the department would
“stand by the release” and
did not answer questions
about it.
Orland Park Police Sgt.
Ken Rosinski did not return
a call and email about the
case immediately.
