In Shared Inquiry, students—guided by their teacher—explore a text by discussing open-ended questions and
sharing responses and insights. This method of teaching and learning helps students learn to think about what
they read, express and develop their ideas, and learn from one another. Shared Inquiry enhances all the basic
language arts skills—reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing, speaking, and listening—and enables
students to learn more across the curriculum.
Teachers embrace a collaborative approach that

and discussion
• Monitor and support comprehension for students
at all reading levels
• Integrate critical thinking and socio-emotional
