UPDATE
A few issues back, I wrote about the transformation
of our Phygure® project from digital to physical by
showcasing Phygure®’s very first test prints. These
test prints are like the “proof of concept” to make sure
everything is “in place” in case we decided to make it
available for everyone. Reading and holding the print
version feels so much better compared to checking it
out on my tablet device. Everyone’s work looks absolutely
amazing in it!
I released like 4 new issues before deciding to go and
do another round of test prints - this time, using some
of the new “tricks” I learned when I was reviewing the
first batch. I received the second batch of prints and
the difference from the first batch in terms of quality
were night and day. The colors were more vibrant,
paper used were a lot better, and the magazine just
screams “premium” when you hold it in your hands.
Everything looks beautiful.
I reviewed these test prints and learned that there
were even more ways to make it better. I studied and
asked a couple of my friends in the print industry
while also working on releasing new issues. My plan
is to implement all of my newly acquired knowledge
about print and apply it to Phygure®’s new issues.
After reviewing, it’s clear that this is going to be the
process we will be using in transforming Phygure®
into a full blown magazine. From a $$$ standpoint,
the technique used in printing is a bit “pricey” compared
to the first batch of test prints, but based on
the samples I received - it’s totally worth it!
