FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd TAKING PORT HISTORY TO PEOPLE Journalist-author Dyke Hendrickson is scheduled to speak at the Custom House Maritime Museum on Friday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. about research for his new book, “Nautical Newburyport: A History of Captains, Clipper Ships and the Coast Guard.” Hendrickson, of Newburyport, recently completed a study of the maritime legacy of the city from 1764 to 1915. His presentation will include two dozen slides focusing on shipbuilding, trade on the riverfront, engagement in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 and the birth of the Coast Guard. The book is finished, and is slated for publication in March by The History Press of Charleston, S.C. The veteran journalist will discuss his plan to bring research to the community. It is called “Taking Port History to People” and he will use the kickstarter.com platform to initiate the program. His presentation is part of the Maritime Museum’s “first Friday” series at which historical themes are discussed. This is Hendrickson’s fourth book. The Community Connections Health Fair is a great opportunity for seniors to learn about the agencies and services that are available to them. Flu shots, free reiki, Charlie Card sign-up, blood pressure clinic, Find Mass Money, food, freebies and more! The Health Fair proceeds help to support services sponsored by the Amesbury Council on Aging Senior Community Center and the FCOA. The posters are from a collection of more than 6300 of Stephen Lewis. Stephen is a long-time activist in the labor movement and has exhibited at a number of public libraries in Massachusetts and two of the state Heritage parks. A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned years before and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart for a little sexual diversion. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where wedding guests await her. The Town’s website, www. ipswichma.gov , has posted a “Community Voice” survey for water users to share their suggestions. Although the town has posted water saving tips on the website, the town is also seeking active engagement by water users in addressing the critical water shortage. Water customers are encouraged to visit the website and share their ideas, suggestions, or practices for reducing water consumption. ------------------------------------------------------------ IPSWICH - In celebration of Choate Island Day, The Trustees will provide boat transportation to Choate Island in Essex Bay. Attendees will park at Crane Beach at no charge and take a shuttle to the Crane boat dock, where a boat will ferry people to and from the island throughout the celebration. Once on the island, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Choate family homestead, the historic Proctor Barn, the White Cottage Visitor Center, and the summit that marks the final resting place of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Crane, donors of the island. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and spend the day.
