caregivers of people with
dementia to free support
group Sept. 8
Smith Crossing, a life
plan community, is inviting
residents in or near Orland
Park who are caregivers of
older adults with Alzheimer’s
disease or dementia to
attend a memory support
group at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8.
Smith Crossing, 10501
Emilie Lane (enter at 104th
Avenue and 183rd Street),
will have an open forum
discussion with advance
practice nurse Kay Budick
of The Institute of Neurobehavioral
Services in Orland
Park. She will talk about
medications that can help
slow down the progression
of Alzheimer’s and also
help with behaviors associated
with dementia.
Life enrichment director
Dana Mahler and social services
director Amy Majcina
will lead the meeting. Light
refreshments will be served
before the meeting ends at
7:30 p.m

Ltd. recently acquired
Artisan Builder and Co. of
Joliet. Artisan’s owner and
founder Dawn McKenna --
a certified kitchen, bath and
residential designer from
Orland Park -- has joined
Clairmont.
McKenna has been the
owner of Artisan Builder
and Co., a full-service design
and remodeling company
in Joliet since 1989.
She became a certified
kitchen and bath designer
in 1996 through the National
Kitchen & Bath Association.
In addition to being
a member of the NKBA,
McKenna has served as
past president, vice president
and on the board of
directors of the Southwest
Suburban Home Builders
Association. She also has
served in various leadership
capacities for the
Home Builders Association
of Illinois, the National Association
of Home Builders
and its Remodelers Council.
Her work has garnered
multiple Remodeler of the
Year honors from the HBAI
and she has been featured
on HGTV’s “New Spaces”
TV program.
Clairmont Ltd. recently

Joe Rizza Ford supports ILCOPS, families of fallen cops

Joe Rizza Ford of Orland
Park recently hosted a “Take
the Wheel” Fundraising
event to support its local police
department.
The event was held at
Lifetime Fitness in Orland
Park and had free gifts and
raffle prizes for those who
attended.

“Summer is gone, but it’s
a new year, so I’m excited,”
Souany said.
Kruse’s math specialist
and instructional coach Angelika
Kavroulakis, who encounters
all of the students
within the building, said she
places a high emphasis on
understanding how each individual
student learns best.
She recalled being amazed
at the teamwork, dedication
and hard work of the Kruse
Elementary staff when she
joined the district four years
ago.
“We’re all about serving
kids, watching how they
do, measuring success and
adjusting according to what
each student needs,” Kavroulakis
said.
Even though the event has
passed, Joe Rizza Ford of
Orland Park is still honoring
its offer from its “Take the
Wheel” event. Until the end
of the year, all first responders
will receive $500 off of
every new Ford vehicle purchase,
and Joe Rizza Ford
of Orland Park will donate
$100 to the Illinois Chapter
of Concerns of Police
Survivors. Plus, Joe Rizza
Ford Orland Park and Ford
Motor Company will be donating
$6,000 to ILCOPS in
addition to whatever they
raise during their “Take the
Wheel” fundraising event.
ILCOPS is dedicated to
helping survivors of law enforcement
officers who have
died in the line of duty. They
represent both the survivors
of Illinois officers and the
families of officers from
across the country who call
Illinois home. More than
1,000 officers have died in
the line of duty in Illinois.

parents know all of the staff
members at the school, having
formed solid relationships
over the years. She
said children new to the
school are nervous at first
but eventually become part
of the Kruse family.
“We stay together
throughout the year through
phone calls, emails or in
person,” Bilina said.
