Park recently announced a<br />
slate of upcoming activities<br />
via press release. They are as<br />
follows.<br />
Free Fall Gardening Class<br />
Those new to gardening<br />
and anyone looking to improve<br />
their green thumbs<br />
can attend the Village of<br />
Orland Park Recreation Department’s<br />
free gardening<br />
class, “Fall into the Garden,”<br />
from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday,<br />
Sept. 1. The event is to<br />
be held in the Exhibit Hall of<br />
the Cultural Center, 14760<br />
S. Park Lane.<br />
University of Illinois Extension<br />
Master Gardener<br />
Margaret Burns is to present<br />
the best way to care for<br />
gardens in the fall season,<br />
in order to ensure a healthy<br />
garden the following season.<br />
Burns will share what to do<br />
and when, to maintain a vibrant<br />
garden.<br />
The hour-and-a-half class<br />
is intended for ages 16 and<br />
older, and attendees do not<br />
need to live in Orland Park<br />
to attend. There is no charge,<br />
but registration is requested.<br />
Walk-ins also are welcome.<br />

Dance Company Auditions<br />
The Village of Orland<br />
Park Recreation Department’s<br />
Dance Company is<br />
scheduled to hold auditions<br />
for the 2016-2017 season at<br />
6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1,<br />
in Room 101 of the Cultural<br />
Center, 14760 S. Park Lane.<br />
Dancers are to dress in<br />
appropriate dance attire and<br />
must be accompanied by a<br />
parent. Parents will attend a<br />
mandatory meeting before<br />
auditions at 6:15 p.m.<br />
The Dance Company is<br />
for serious dancers, and an<br />
additional dance/jazz class<br />
is required. Junior Dance<br />
Company is for those in<br />
grades sixth grade through<br />
eighth grade, and Senior<br />
Dance Company for students<br />
in high school. The<br />
program is led by veteran<br />
dance instructors Colleen<br />
Panega and Kristin Lux.<br />
Dance Company rehearsals<br />
are on Thursday evenings,<br />
and advanced ballet/<br />
jazz class on Monday evenings.<br />
The Dance Company<br />
season runs for 31 weeks,<br />
from Sept. 12-Dec. 8, and<br />
Jan. 9-May 25. The fee for<br />
the year is $700 for residents<br />
and $875 for non-residents,<br />
and includes classes, rehearsals<br />
and two costumes.<br />
Fees may be paid in full or<br />
with a payment plan.<br />

Fitness Classes for Children<br />
The Village of Orland Park<br />
Recreation Department is to<br />
offer fitness classes for children<br />
of all ages starting in<br />
September and continuing<br />
into December. Classes run<br />
for six weeks and are held<br />
at the Sportsplex, 11351 W.<br />
159th St.<br />

Boot Camp For Kids/<br />
Teens: Children and teens<br />
ages 8-14 are to learn the basics<br />
of staying fit with drills<br />
and obstacles that include<br />
weights, tubes, cardio machines,<br />
jump ropes and more.<br />
Classes are held from 5-5:55<br />
p.m. Monday and Wednesday,<br />
Sept. 12-Oct. 19. A certified<br />
personal trainer instructs the<br />
six-week class. Cost is $75 for<br />
residents, $113 for non-residents,<br />
$70 for members.<br />
Roll With the Peanut for<br />
Kids: Balance, strength, and<br />
ab work are the focus of this<br />
class that utilizes the peanut<br />
workout tool. This Wednesday<br />
night class runs Sept. 14-<br />
Oct. 19 and is open to children<br />
ages 6-11. Classes are<br />
4:30-5:25 p.m. Cost is $60<br />
for residents, $90 for nonresidents,<br />
$55 for members.<br />
Splex Rex Fitness for Kids:<br />
Toddlers and preschool-age<br />
children can have fun while<br />
learning the importance of a<br />
healthy lifestyle, including<br />
healthy eating, exercise and<br />
good sportsmanship. The<br />
Thursday morning class is<br />
9-9:55 a.m., and is open to<br />
ages 4-6, running Sept. 22-<br />
Oct. 27. Cost is $40 for residents,<br />
$60 for non-residents,<br />
$35 for members.<br />
Yoga & Fitness for Kids:<br />
Children ages 7-14 will<br />
learn the basics of yoga and<br />
stretching, along with kickboxing,<br />
cycle and aerobics<br />
every Friday from 3:30-4:15<br />
p.m. Classes run Sept. 23-<br />
Oct. 28. Cost is $47 for residents,$71<br />
for non-residents,<br />
$42 for members.<br />
Aerobic Explosion:<br />
Young girls and teens learn<br />
yoga, kickboxing, spin cycling,<br />
and strength training<br />
from 4:15-5 p.m. every Friday.<br />
The class is open to females<br />
ages 7 to 13. Class runs<br />
Sept. 23-Oct. 28. Cost is $47<br />
for residents, $71 for nonresidents,<br />
$42 for members.
