Our Community
Harbledown Lodge Nursing Home is set in
50 acres of beautiful Kent country side.
Built in around 1825 the stunning Georgian
Manner has its own unique character.
Having recently undergone refurbishment
its grand dinning and drawing rooms have
a special ambiance. However social
lounges, activities and relaxation rooms
are spacious and light: the perfect places
to relax and socialise.
Residents can also enjoy the views of the
extensive manicure lawns and seasonal
flower beds. With accessible and secure
sections of the garden ideal for relaxing in
or partaking in gardening activities.
Being located so close to the Historical
City of Canterbury there are always so
many wonderful places to visit such as the
Cathedral, Theatres and Art Galleries.
There are also lots of great opportunities
to be involved in the local community as
we have close links with schools, churches
and arts and cultural projects. We are
lucky to have an extensive high street with
so many shops, restaurants and cafes; we
are also served well by our local Dr
Surgeries and Pharmacies

With 24hr Registered Nursing provision
we strive to provide high quality, person
centred care tailored to our service
users needs in a homely resident led
community. Driven by our leisure and
lifestyle services where promotion of
independence, dignity and individuality
is a priority.
Our qualified, experienced and
dedicated Nursing staff are led by the
homes Nursing Manager who has over
years of experience within the Care
Sector
All of our Health Care Assistants are
recruited for their passion and
dedication to care. We have high
expectations which are facilitated by
our outstanding training we provide
which covers a broad spectrum of
subjects and specialisms in Health and
Social Care. Promoting a holistic
approach to the daily health and social
needs of our residents: it is not just a job
but is a vocation.

Bedrooms & Facilities
Making sure we create the right
type of atmosphere is important to
us so our Care Communities are
decorated to a high standard using
quality bespoke furniture and soft
furnishings.
At Harbledown Lodge our
accommodation is over three floors,
our 50 beautifully decorated
bedrooms are designed to meet
various needs. Our bedrooms are
bright and homely, all rooms come
complete with a full set of bedroom
furniture consisting of: Bed,
Wardrobe, Bedside Table, Chest of
Draws and a relaxing seating area.
Single Bedroom
The styles of bedrooms we have
available are Single, Single en-suite,
Double and Double en-suite; which
means we can cater for all
needs/requirements. Rooms that are
not en suite have basins and
storage for toiletries.

Ensuring that our
communities are accessible
and that our residents have
freedom of movement is
important to us. Our homes
are wheelchair friendly and
our upper floors are
accessible either by lifts or
stair lifts. Our bathrooms, wet
rooms and shower rooms are
also fully accessible.
All of our Care Communities
have Wi-Fi and have either
tablets or computer centres
available in our social areas
for accessing the internet or
skyping family and friends.

Nursing
Our Registered Nursing Homes provide high quality and person
centred care for those residents with nursing needs. Our qualified and
experienced nurses provide 24 hours nursing care giving that support
and reassurance that means so much to our residents and their
families.
We also provide palliative care; we know the importance in making
sure we continually asses and meet the needs of the resident and
their families at this time, giving support, comfort and reassurance.
Our Nursing Homes are highly equipped, meeting all regulations and
standards. They are also fully accessible throughout.
Respite
We also offer all of the above as a Respite Service in some of
our homes which can be booked in advance or in an
emergency. The regularity of this service depends on the
home and the availability of beds.
Dementia
We go that extra mile to ensure that our staff have the latest
training which starts with our managers and is cascaded
down through all departments. We provide care for those
effected by all types of Dementia and Alzheimer’s including
Vascular, Frontal Lobe and Lewy Bodies.
We keep up to date with the latest research papers and
articles from experts in these fields which enables us to create
specifically designed engaging and stimulating environments
and décor.
Day Care
Our Day Care Services can meet the needs and requirements
of both the resident, care giver or their families. The service is
person tailored in every aspect; from the length of visit, what
day and extends to the type of service whether it be for the
Leisure and Social programme or to use our personal care
facilities.

Our well-presented dining rooms are
socially engaging and relaxing
environments where our residents
are able to enjoy the full dining
experience in the comfort of their
own home. With beautiful laid
tables and table service to match
we pride ourselves on getting right
the balance of presenting
traditional home cooking with the
ambience of restaurant quality
dining.
We want our resident’s Dining
Experience to be a comfortable
and relaxed occasion so our
residents are also welcomed to eat
in other social areas within the
homes; if they would prefer to do so.
We can also provide room service if
desired.

Nutrition
We know how important and vital a
nutritional, well balanced and
wholesome diet is for our Residents.
Our qualified Head Chefs work hard to
ensure our menus are seasonal and
tasty, regularly consulting with our
residents to discover what type of
foods they’d like to see on the menu.
Personal choice and preference is
important so with 2-3 daily main meal
and supper options to choose from our
menus have just that! All of our meals
are freshly prepared and cooked in
our professional kitchens using fresh
and locally sourced seasonal
vegetables, meats and fish where
possible and at all times maintaining a
high standard of quality.
Our kitchens are open 24 hours a day;
with 3 main meals a day and snack
and refreshments available morning
noon and night if desired.

A Day in the Life of
Harbledown Lodge’s Chef
Every day can vary but everyday starts
with preparing breakfasts for the residents
which can be anything from a cooked
breakfast to cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurts
and plenty of toast.
Then we prepare for lunch which always
includes homemade soup of the day as a
starter. Followed by the two main choice
meals which could be Cottage Pie with
seasonal vegetables or Cod in Parsley
Sauce. These are all, of course finished off
with choices of the homemade pudding of
the day. Once lunch is finished the chef
preps for supper which varies from day to
day, again with two choices such as
assorted sandwiches and homemade
quiche with salad, cakes and fresh fruit.
Beverley Finn Chef at Harbledown Lodge
says “I always like to make sure that the
meals are appetizing, nutritional, freshly
prepared and more importantly that the
residents are happy. I enjoy my job as I get
satisfaction from seeing and hearing that
the residents have enjoyed their food. The
role the kitchen plays in the home is really
important as it can be the highlight of
someone day.”

Leisure & Lifestyle
Our Leisure & Lifestyle services are
a central part of our communities.
We are dedicated to enabling
and encouraging the residents to
lead an activity based lifestyle.
Our activities programmes are
devised to be person centred and
meet our individual residents
needs.
The programme has a
multifaceted approach and is
devised to be; creatively,
physically, emotionally and
cognitively stimulating. Activities
that feature weekly are; Arts and
Crafts, Group Discussions, Quizzes,
Word Games, Music
Reminiscence, Film Reminiscence,
Sing Alongs, Reminiscence
Sessions and Practical Activities
such as baking and gardening.

We strive to ensure that our residents;
feel appreciated, at all times treated
with respect, dignity and with an
acknowledgement of their own
psychological and emotional needs.
We have an extensive Leisure and
Lifestyle Service with various activities
such as; Cookery, Arts and Crafts, Poetry
and Reminiscence Work. We also are
lucky to have lots of entertainers,
musicians and volunteers, some of those
who come to visit us are Barry and his
banjo, Rob T, PAT Dog services, Jazz
Bands and so much more.
