Within Chester’s city walls there’s 2,000 years of

restaurants. Take a weekend break and explore 

Chester’s delights, both old and new. Here are our 

essential highlights for a flying visit: 

Day 1 

Morning - Blow off the cobwebs 

with a stroll around Chester’s city 

walls. On the gentle two mile walk 

you’ll take in the River Dee, the 

iconic Eastgate Clock, Chester’s 

Roman Amphitheatre and the oldest 

racecourse in the UK. 

It’s also a great way to discover an 

alluring lunch or dinner spot for 

later. 

Before lunch - Take part in a 

centuries-old tradition and hear the 

Town Crier make his midday 

proclamation at the High Cross. Just 

hope you don’t end up in the stocks.

Morning - Chester’s inner-city

and chocolatiers, shoppers are

Refuel with a latte from one of a 

wealth of independent coffee shops, 

and see if you can spot England’s 

oldest storefront on Bridge Street. 

Lunch - From shiny and new to over 

800 years old, there are plenty of 

options for a fantastic pub lunch in 

the city. Enjoy with a beautiful local 

beer from one of Chester’s 

breweries. 

Afternoon - Unwind and drift away 

on a cruise along the River Dee. 

Enjoy a unique perspective on the 

sights of Grosvenor Park, the 

Meadows and the Eaton Estate,

take to the water in a rowing boat or
