The history of the Burley Oak Brewing
Company surrounds the Burley Plantation
which measures over 300 acres and
originated in the 1600s. The purpose of
this brewery is to produce distinctive beers
that stand apart from others. The brewery
and its history has become a major

available and showcase the process in
which these products are manufactured.
Monocacy National
Battlefield

The Monocacy National Battlefield was
established in 1864. This location is where,
Generals Early and Wallace battled,
during the civil war. It was discovered that
Early and his unit had intentions of taking
control of Washington. As history reads
there were 15,000 troops within this battle.
The attraction features artifacts and
documentation regarding this portion of
the Civil War.

the Chesapeake

Harwood House is open for tours
every Tuesday through Thursday. This
home is of Anglo-Palladian architecture,
which was inspired by Andrea Palladio, a

Patapsco Valley State Park

The Patapsco Valley State Park covers
16,043 acres along side 32 miles of the
Patapsco River. A visit to the area offers
outdoors enthusiasts the opportunity to

addition of numerous pavilions it is possible
to have a picnic in several locations
throughout the park.

At the Ellicott City B&O Railroad you learn
that this is the oldest railroad in the country
and that the Main Depot building, which
still stands today, was originally built in
1830. Housed in the freight house, constructed
in 1885, is a 40-foot model train.
Video and light shows introduce visitors to
information pertaining to this railroad and
its station.

The
Chesapeake
Bay
The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary
in the United States. Spanning
200 miles, the Bay is surrounded by
Maryland and Virginia. The Chesapeake
Bay was formed over 10,000 years ago
when melting glacial ice caused sea
levels to rise in the Atlantic Ocean. The
bay was known as Chesepiooc meaning
“Great Shellfish Bay” by the Algonquin
Indians. The bay is mostly known for
its great seafood production, especially
blue crabs, clams and oysters.
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has thrived following
a massive urban renewal project
that began in the 1970’s. It is now
a vibrant waterfront area featuring the
glass enclosed market of Harborplace,
the National Aquarium, the US Constellation,
the Maryland Science Museum
and Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
In addition, the Fells Pont neighborhood,
one of the nation’s oldest maritime
communities has been designated
as a National Historic District. Fells
Point was the hub of the nation’s shipbuilding
industry in the late 1700’s and
early 1800’s. While visiting, notice the
350 original structures including housing
shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants.
Visit Little Italy, located between
the Inner Harbor and Fells Point and be
sure to experience the great Italian food
at one of its many restaurants.
While visiting the Bay, be sure to take
a ride on the water taxi which connects
Baltimore’s attractions and is the best
way to get around. The taxi stops at the
Aquarium, Harborplace, the Maryland
Science Center, Little Italy, Fells Point
and Fort McHenry.
