The Epiphany of Embracing the Culture through Entertainment
From the little island of wood and water spring forth an authentic unique culture. A culture with a vivacious
philosophy that genuinely respects the core values of its motto, national anthem, flag and colors that represent the island of
Jamaica. The Jamaican culture in its entirety is one of its kinds in that we pride ourselves in a structured setting where as
Individual islanders we know who we are, and what our purpose is to society. Depicted from the proverb “we little but we
talawah” is sure to showcase much attributes from the small island such as sports in track and field, soccer and cricket.
Clubhites in diaspora continues to engage themselves with their sports abilities in order to stay abreast of what trending in
the sport arena The Houston Missouri City Dominoes Club strives to keep the culture alive through the routine of playing
dominoes games and Ludi. Playing these games allows patron brains to be stimulated and use their critical thinking skills
analyze their thought process and solve the game at hand. Perhaps I must state playing dominoes helps you to keep your
arithmetic skills up to par in fact players must know their numbers in order to enter the game.
Equipping the cognition of individuals with well-rounded education through reggae music, playing dominoes and
ludi games will have a tremendous impact on society wherein our motto “Out of Many one People” will sound an alarm
that indeed the words of the motto is vibrant not only in the club but; throughout the communities and surrounding cities of
the greater Houston areas. Entertaining others through music and dancing, individuals are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The Dominoes club serves its purpose in many ways from listening to the sounds of reggae music and jamming to the
beats holding down the rhythm individuals benefited from a full body workout burning calories. From dancing and doing
diverse dance moves the body is getting rid of excess toxins maintaining proper body core moving the body into different
range of motions. After a complete dance sessions clubhites and other patron improves their cardio vascular system, clear
their minds, laugh with others, build healthy relationships and feel better in their overall bodies and attitudes.
Visiting the Houston Missouri City Dominoes Club on a Friday evening after a full week of work offers such a relaxation
atmosphere for many. Listening to the words of the music playing, recital of poetry, men playing dominoes ladies
playing ludi is phenomenal. Playing dominoes and ludi is using much logic which requires the brains to process new ideas
and deliver correct answers to the players to compete with their partner in winning games at the club and competing in annual
tournaments. The unity that’s displayed among the clubhites elevates the true power of the green, yellow, and black
colors. Depicted from the words of the Legendary Robert Nester Marley he stated we must “emancipate ourselves from
mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds and have no fear for atomic energy”. The artist is telling us through
reggae music that we ought not to be caught up in mental slavery and keep our minds pure from atomic energy wherein humanity
can function and be productive in global society. Therefore through reggae music there’s a positive effect in bringing
forth healing, peace and tranquility to mankind. Been in the presence of the islanders at the Dominoes Club will allow
you stay fit, alert and maintain stamina to face life challenges.
The philosophy of the club is to reach beyond the walls of the club and assist the weak making them strong again,
helping the fallen brother sister or families during their time of illness death or whatever the situation may be. Catering to
the whole aspect of the human being is what the Houston Missouri City Domino Club practice and demonstrates. As a
member of the Missouri City Dominoes Club I am delighted to say the clubhites are like a part of my family tree. Whenever
I am absent from the club there’s that phone call or a text to check upon me. Recalled sick and admitted in the hospital it
was the presence of the president and members who took time out of their busy schedule to visit with me. One doesn’t have
to think that they are alone and feel cast out in despair.
So if you’re looking for a place to relax in your spare time I encourage you to visit the Houston Missouri City Dominoes
Club and feel the irie vibes, dine on some authentic curry goat rice and peas, fried plantain, beef patties, mannish water,
jerk pork, wine up your waist line, listen to the islander speak in their native language (Patwa) then laugh from the
clubhites comedic moments. You will be a total different person leaving better than the way you enter the club as you have
taken off a heavy load from your shoulders. One Love!
