WKBW-TV’s Mike Randall learns science
from fourth graders
Mr. Partisano’s fourth grade students shared a science lesson with WKBW Channel 7’s Mike
Randall for an upcoming “What’s Cool at School?” segment, scheduled to air on February 4 in the
5 - 7 AM “Good Morning WNY” program.
Over the past several weeks, Mr. Partisano’s students have been experimenting with six mysterious
powders and crystals. They performed tests and recorded results, using iodine, BTB, water,
vinegar, heat, senses, and pocket scopes. Two of the powders and crystals were then combined,
and the students had to work through the experiments to determine which of the six were combined.
As a culminating activity, students designed and wrote their own experiments to determine
what the mysterious powders and crystals actually were. It was at this point in the unit that Mr.
Randall joined the lesson. Students thoroughly enjoyed this fun and exciting problem solving
activity.
